Faulty GPU ?

Problems like this are going to be difficult to diagnose.

Try another PICe slot, if thats no good use the On board Graphics for a while, see if the same problem still occurs.

Ideally I would like to get it sorted now, not sure what returns policy is for ocuk because it's already been back to them 3weeks ago when it wouldn't display anything at all and was returned as no fault found.

Has worked the times I've used it in the past 3weeks but now is doing this on every dp output.

It might have an intermittent problem, then again it could also be an intermittent problem with the Motherboard or the RAM.
Make sure everything is properly seated and all power plugs firmly connected. (Don't take the CPU out its unlikely to be that)

If you can't solve it by checking the system is properly put together i think you should phone them and explain what you just told me in this reply.

A problem like this could be anything, its impossible to figure out what's wrong remotely, ideally the best thing is to put the GPU in another system so it eliminate or confirm the problem is with it, OcUK will have tested it extensively but if the problem with the GPU is intermittent it may not have shown up, or the problem is with other parts of your PC. could even be the screen. do you have another screen or TV you can plug the computer into?

They may have some advice for you.

Hi there

As we have just spoken on the phone I will keep an eye on this thread to see what happens.

Good advice ^^^^

I will try reseating everything apart from the cpu. Indont have another monitor but did test with a 290 gpu and it didn't happen with that.. I have got an rma number again and will return it if reseating everything doesn't work.

Was this a 290 you had before the 390? Do you still have it?

If the 290 was running fine in the same system it doesn't actually mean there is not a problem with the system or that there is a problem with the 390, something may have gone wrong in the interim.

Unless you used the 290 while the 390 was at RMA?

Ignore me - it was an r9 380 that I used when this one was at rma.

Original fault was that I could not get this card to output anything at all but the 380 was working fine. However after the no fault found rma and a bag of haribo lol. I installed the 390 and it worked fine.

Has done for 3weeks albeit not for long periods and not a particularly demanding game (rust).

The suggestion above seems viable but I will need to remove the card to allow me to do the sweep of drivers.

And sorry for the noob questions but memtest what does this do and how do I do it ?

Don't worry about the noob question, we were all noobs once, no one is born all knowing :)

Memtest will stress the system memory to check for problems, you can get it here... http://www.memtest86.com/
Put on a USB drive or Burn to a bootable CD, restart and boot off the CD / USB, run test... (for a couple of hours)

Anyway, if the 380 ran fine while you had the 390 at RMA it could be the GPU or a related problem, not necessarily the GPU its self.

Clean the old drivers out with DDU as linked above, reinstall new drivers making sure they are for your system and GPU, run Memtest.... if the problem persists then RMA it again.
If you ask nicely they might swap it for another 390.

Don't know if it makes a difference but when Windows on desktop the gpu is in silent mode with fans off. When it goes pixelated and then blanks it out the fans come off and on. And the card is hot to the touch.

That might be significant... could be fan problems, if you have a house fan or something to blow over the GPU to keep it cool?

If you can get back into a usable desktop use this to monitor GPU temperatures.

im currently using the PC with GPU unplugged. works perfectly fine.

with it plugged in it only seems to last 3 or 4 minutes after i have logged into windows.

i can try and open my HW monitor really quickly after i have re installed the drivers if it doesnt resolve the issue. maybe then i will be able to see the temps.
