Favourite Jailbroken Applications

i used to use:

backgrounder
proswitcher
irealsms (amazing)
sbsettings.

irealsms - do you have to use their app? I'd like to use the normal sms app but get the quicktext functions etc and just hide that app and be able to view the notifications icon on the sms app.

afc2add lets you browse everything on iphone via pc with iphonebrowser, and with ubuntu. ideal for when you just wana copy over films or tv progs

JB'ing doesn't carry much of a risk if any, right?. I can just restore my iPhone 4 if required and I'm back to how it was out of the box, yeah?.

The only risk you have is that it removes the sandboxing thus apps can do whatever they like to your phone or data. Which is an obvious security risk.

However on the flip side the non-JB has issues too.

sorry, its been a while since i had an iphone..

i used the quicksms thing for it, forgot what it was exactly (it allowed for that popup sms quick reply)

im sure i used the "normal" sms program though, and just had the quicksms function?

I use iFunbox. Great little browser app for pc.
Use Handbrake to convert to mp4 and then copy across.

MxTube not work for anyone else? I click the shortcut but it just takes me back the home screen.
Try YourTube? Not sure how it works on the iPhone but on the iPads it integrates it with the youtube app.
Time to jailbreak my ipod :D

Edit: Also not ios4 compatible .. Oh
Edit2: apparently beta version is out for developers on 4.1

Not least of which is that the current jailbreak is a security exploit, which rather destroys all hope with the sandbox. Fortunately the iPhone is somewhat exotic to work with at low level, so you'd need to be fairly good to create a malicious exploit.

Used to use:

SBSettings, FiveIconDock, privaCy, LockInfo (never bought it though).

Currently:

SBSettings.

Like the idea of themes, but don't like the idea of having to make any effort to do it (and don't much like the idea of Winterboard knackering performance either - I get enough crashes without).

thought the app called privacy rectified this

They're all to pay for and i'm a bit reluctant to pay as of yet not knowing if it's iOS4 compatible.... Not very clear whether it is or not on Cydia.

ive jailbreaked my 3gs and to be honest i cant see any real benefits from doing so.

what is so special about jailbreak ?

The main purpose is being able to run unsigned Apps on your device, stuff that wouldn't be allowed on the App Store.

To be honest, a lot of the stuff available through Cydia is tripe and pointless, there seem to only be a handful of apps that people recommend on a recurring basis, and even they aren't essential IMO. I'm struggling to think why I would use SBSettings for example, and even Backgrounder as I only use one App at a time anyway on my iPad. Not into the customisation aspect either really, a lot of the themes are rubbish and to do it "properly" without using Winterboard sounds like it takes a lot of faffing about getting into the folder structure.

Probably my most wanted app would be something that exactly mimmicks folders like on iOS4 so I could group apps on the iPad. Categories just isn't seemless enough to use, and I'd rather not pay for CategoriesSB. Infinifolders mentioned above might be worth a look.
