Favourite singleplayer levels of all time?

Trying to think of some other games, but all this talk of CoD made me have to mention the Pegasus Brigde day time mission. I can't link it since it's quite long and would take several videos.

All through the mission you defending the bridge from the germans and slowly u start to get pushed back and the odds really start to stack against u, the enemy are everywhere, all your fellow soldiers are dying all around you.
German armour starts to roll in over the other side of the bridge and this music kicks in.

Made for 1 hell of a final stand.

Can't believe this didn't make the first page. This level is beyond good, especially if you do it exclusively with a bolt action Enfield.

As well as this i'd say pretty much any level in Mafia, then there's the hilltop defence among others in Vietcong plus any rooftop levels in Mirror's Edge.

Oh, can I say Portal?

Speaking to the master was epic.

Endgame boss you could talk your way through* :D

For me i think it has to be "Grosse" on Doom 2 I remember playing that first time thinking omg this is just awesome :D

One internet cookie for anyone who remember this map lol

I actually remember standing there at the top of the stairs going.. no.. no it can't be true. I've come through all this to find the marines and now they're bad?! I didn't accept it at first, I didn't shoot at him until he ran towards me and started shooting me. Even then it took me a second to fully admit it and shoot back.

I did exactly the same!! I remember standing there not shooting at the guy until he took half of my health off lol

I'm going to go with the Chernoyl level on MW but tbh, I found the whole game to be jaw dropping. Same with MW2. Yeah they may be short but they're a testimony to how good a SP storyline can be.

HL2 the first part with the hovercraft. Tearing down tunnels, over the dam, and getting shot at. Fantastic mission. I thought the rest of the game was mediocre compared. Not bad, just not as good.

And whilst not really having missions, I'd say Doom 3 is up there with the very best in terms of SP. Just so atmospheric, and has a real capability to mess with your head.

proble hitman blood money when your at the funeral for 47 then you wake up and kick some ass :)

That mission is great! Especially when the whole game you are just playing what is essentially a flashback and you don't even realize until the end of the game where you're at your own funeral. My trick was to wait until the priest came near the coffin and then just hammer the directional keys and take him as a human shield. If you leave it and don't press any keys to wake him then he just ends up getting cremated you know. :(

Also, on a Hitman note my favourite mission from the series is either the Villa Borghese from Hitman 2: Silent Assassin, or the Kuala Lumpur series of missions from the same game. Really loved them for some reason, probably because they came out when I was in my early teens. Being able to play as a complete badass character was brilliant. :)

Indeed. If I hadn't bought MW2 I would have missed out on a great experience.

Yep I rate Doom 3 even though it's often slated.

- MOHAA Omaha Beach Landing
- COD 4 All Ghillied Up
- Jedi Outcast - Last level from the hangar to Desann (Yavin Final?)
- HL1 - the mission where you fry those huge tentacles that detect you via sound

One that no one has mentioned:
Battlezone- the USA mission on Europa where you have to hijack a enemy vehicle and go around pretending your one of the enemy through the various checkpoints, then running off with the intelligence at the end of the mission (my explanation doesn't do it justice)

Deus Ex - the sheer depth of the intertwined story immerses you like no game before or since IMO. Not sure which out of MJ12 or HK to pick as the best bit... shame the mexican frontier and moonbase never made it to the game.

From digging around in the source/sdk files the moonbase was similiar to the underwater lab but made up of 2 sections each about the same size as that level and the mexican frontier bit apparently was planned to be another 3 set of levels around the size of the Vandenberg labs.

MOHAA - can't remember the map name but it was a ruined town somewhere in France iirc. German snipers, raining hard, spookily quiet, I've got to get from one side of the town to the other and all I have is my trusty sniper rifle.

I just remember sneaking around trying to figure out where to go, getting shot in the leg without even hearing or seeing the enemy....trying to figure out where he is, moving from cover to cover, looking through your scopes, scanning windows, ledges and the like until you suddenly spot him on a roof top slightly obscured by a tree...slowly take aim and headshot...one less German sniper.

Brilliant fun, actually made my heart rate elevate while playing, no other game has ever done that to me. :)

Return To Castle Wolfenstein

Whole game was amazing but my favourite levels are these:

Mission 2, Level 2: Catacombs -those undead warriors which you have to shoot when they've got their shields down

Mission 2, Level 5: Helga -huge lumbering creature chasing you around the inside of a ruined chapel

Mission 6 Level 4: Unhallowed Ground -in the grounds of a chateau at night sniping nazis

Cost me £700 to play this game when it came out cos I needed a complete new system to run it. One of the few games I've ever played through more than a couple of times. In fact, where's my install disk....? Gonna play it again now. Seriously :)

Highway 17 . Just something about that level which is so solitary, so normal but at the same time so weird and troubled. Can never get tired of it. Ravenholm is awesome too.
