Favourite ZX Spectrum games

Timely thread this, just got a boxed near-mint +2a arrive in the post this morning to go with my boxed 48k rubber keys, boxed Spectrum+ and boxed zx81. Kinda like the Sinclair machines.

:)

Some great games so far, brings back a lot of good memories. My friend owned the ZX Spectrum and the games we liked to play were Chaos, Double Dragon and the Dizzy games.

I like that I show my kids videos of these old games and they just see the gameplay, the graphics don't matter.

A game nobody else seems to know but I'm sure had the daft title of "4d sports car racing" where the track was entirely on the screen and you raced around it with tiny little cars that looked a bit like the original mini.

Just remembered 2 other games.

Saboteur

M.O.V.I.E

I had no idea what I was doing in that game, but I loved the look of it. Which pretty much explains 90% of the games I played back then. :p

Ahh yes, Saboteur, Knightlore. There are so many I remember like Kickstart - you could build your own tracks, IK+, Barbarian (better on the Spec than the C64), The Last Ninja was quality, but the last game I recall before I moved on to the Amiga was Wizball:

I always imagined back in the days when computer games would be "photorealistic". I guess we are getting there now but rose tinted glasses mean I will probably never prefer them over my formulative years.

In some ways this AAA title lark and the over commercialisation of gaming has stifled creativitity for the sake of a buck.

I envy the young ones who have so much more to look forward to, but then I also regret that they will likely never really appreciate true gameplay for the sake of it...

I never had a ZX spectrum had a C64 myself but my friend had a ZX128.

I was very jealous when this came out......

And it ran 20X better on his computer!!

Manic Miner / Jet Set Willy. Drove me totally nuts but I loved them.
Lords of Midnight / Doomdarks Revenge. Felt epic and huge at the time although of course it really wasn't.
Elite. Epic chasing of tiny dots around a black screen. Who remembers the truly awful Lenslok anti-piracy system?
Daley Thompson's Decathlon. The original keyboard destroyer.
Tir Na Nog. Seemed so mysterious at the time, but really wasn't.

Wow what a brilliantly nostalgic thread, my god jumpers for goal posts and all that. Takes me back to being round at my mates house and loading games up on his speccy in his front room. Mostly playing Atic atak and kwon, happy days. :D

Best
