F.E.A.R 3
Not much seems to have been said on these forums about this game so I thought I'd make a thread so we can discuss it.
Overview and features:
FEAR 3 is set in the same city the other two previous games are set and you can play as either Paxton Fettel; who is a ghost who can possess people or kill them in variously graphical ways like alma can, or point man who can use the "bullet-time" ability and all the weapons in the game.
Due to this mechanic, the entire game is also coop if you want to play that way. Paxton fettel is only unlocked as a playable character in the single player though after you complete it with pointman, giving the game abit of replayability in the single player to start off with.
Story (INC SPOILERS FROM TWO PREVIOUS GAMES):
Paxton Fettel and "Point man" are brothers who share the same mother but no evidence on the same father. Their mother is alma, the terrible pyschic entity that seeks to absorb you in the two prior FEAR games to try and boost her own power. Paxton Fettel is killed buy the player in FEAR 1 via a headshot as he is a powerful psychic commander that can mentally control 1000's of cloned troops with little effort. However in that game, you release alma's body and mind fully from her psychic prison.
FEAR 2's storyline co-incides with the new game due to the ending where your a normal military guy, get put in a machine to give you some psychic abilities and then alma stalks you as she is attracted to those abilities and seeks to absorb you. At the end of the game, she accomplishes this and ends up being pregnant.
This leads directly onto FEAR 3, where alma is close to giving birth and her contractions are causing fissures to open across the city, pouring out monsters. Little else is know about the rest of the story line after that though in regards to the new game.

In an E3 2010 interview last year, the game designers said they have gone back to look at FEAR 1 and see what made the game so scary and directly incorporated the best features of that into the new game. Out of FEAR 2 they have taken the mechs and improved them (see below) plus numerous other things:
Multiplayer Modes:
Scoring System for Coop (IMPORTANT):
"In the F.E.A.R. 3 coop mode, you will compete with your friends with a huge scoring system:"
This is what really should define the game in my opinion. At first the coop system sounded abit garbage for the single player campaigns but they are implementing a variation of bulletstorms "skill kill" system, to use a very crude example. In the E3 2010 video at the top of the post, the developers mention that you can decide if you want to share stuff you find (secrets which only paxton can see in ghost form for example) with your teammate to perhaps get further in the game, or keep it for yourself to hoard your score.

Coop gameplay which is new to the genre. You have to outrun a cloud which kinda resembles a volcanic flow whilst mowing your way through any enemy in the way. If 1 teammate gets consumed by the cloud, everyone fails the mission, so serious teamwork required!
Soul Survivor:
"Soul Survivor is a F.E.A.R. 3 multiplayer mode in which Alma corrupts a member of the F.E.A.R. squad and turns him into a ghost, who has to take down the surviving players"
Reminds me a lot of "Hidden Source" personally where its 1 person versus a team and its still balanced.
Contractions:
"Contractions is a F.E.A.R. 3 cooperative mode in which players, as a F.E.A.R. squad waiting for extraction, will have to survive against the enemies unleashed with each contraction Alma has:"
Looks like killingfloor and call of duty zombies modes combined with waves of enemies and having to repair barracades + limited ammo. Proper coop gameplay.
Soul King:
"Soul King is one of the multiplayer modes of F.E.A.R. 3 in which players, as frightening ghosts, will have to possess enemies and steal souls earned by the other players. Scary, isn't it?"
Most competitive form of multiplayer on FEAR 3. Everyone starts in ghost form and can possess enemies (like paxton fettel). When you do this you are then able to kill the other enemies in the wave and collect their souls. When you get the most souls you become the soul king, making your ghost visible to the other players and attackable and if you die you lose half your souls.
Personally got this on preorder and looking forward to it
