Features the PS3 has but the 360/Wii doesnt?

JUMPURS, if you're talking about 'Out of the Box', then I could argue that atleast the Xbox360 IS HD out of the box by including the necessary cables.

The fact is, Mircrosoft left it open to the user to buy anything they did or didn't need. You don't need anything better than when MS are offering, you don't need a bigger than 120gb HDD (I don't need anything bigger than 20gb).

I know you're very sided to Sony so you'll defend them to the core, but the arguments you're making aren't necessarily a pro, nor are they a con.

And I agree, the Wii is definitely the most limited, certainly online.

well all those arguments are fine, but the thing is Sony are forcing all those options onto you from the go wether you want them or not and pushing the price up. At least you have the option on the 360 which keeps the cost down.

So they are features that the PS3 has that the 360 doesnt (kind of) but I dont want wireless, HD, Live, 7.1, webcams etc becuase i dont have the TV or the sound system or the inclincation to go online with it. So having a system that suits my needs for 200+ quid less than one that does the same BUT with all the extras that i dont want is an easy choice. I can gradually expand it as and when i get better gear at home to play it through. So the one big thing that the 360 has that the ps3 doesnt is Choice.

One thing off the list there is backwards compatibility though, conspicuous by its absence, much like the chips inside the ps3 ;) the 360 doesnt play them all but at least you can play some.

I'll certainly get one but ill wait a couple years like i did with the xbox :D

I dont see the need for a browser on a console, i would never use it - seems a bit pointless

Remember, These are next gen consoles. Complete entertainment systems.

Movies, Music, Games... And the Internet surely?

Seems strange to me, That the console connects to the net, Yet lacks the option to browse it normally.

I like the intergration of Media style things, like streamining music and audio - but seems they are trying to turn consoles into PC's

Yeap you could argue that. And i wouldn't argue against it. But at the same time, yet again Sony let you use any generic cable you want. Wanna stick a 150 quid monstercable on it feel free. Wanna use the £5 off ebay, be my guest. It is all swings and roundabouts.
But at the same time this is just a thread to find out what the PS3 offers against the other systems, not a lets bicker about well you don't need to spend that for the xbox and blah blah blah.
I am reading the OP as if i bought a boxed PS3 in the shop tomorrow, what does it have a boxes 360 does not have.
You can't have the arguement that the 360 is cheaper then add oh but if i spend the money i can add this and that, because at the end of the day, for every thing you add on, the arguement about it being cheaper becomes less and less.
The 360 was concieved by New Labour i think. Lots of stealth taxes.

Ohh i remembered another thing the PS3 has over the 360 and Wii. Play And Charge :)
Sure you can do that with your 360, but there i another 20 quid away.
So for WiFi, play and charge and ONE YEARS online gaming, you are almost pushing PS3 prices. So that showing my point of reducing the impact of the 360's cost.
I know i must have spent RRP of a PS3 on my 360.

Dreamcast had Internet browsing, how often did I use it?
Twice... once to see what it was like, once to get Chu Chu Rocket for free.

dont wanna start an argument or anything but whats wrong with just using a pc to surf the net i mean will ps3 browser be anywhere close to explorer i doubt it a games console is a games console its not a pc .what ppl want from a games console is the ability to turn on and play a game with out any fussing around. yes they now have video playback thats due to the fact they use the same format for games disc. if you want something to browse the net handle your photos just buy pc.

But it was a 28k modem in it :p and nothing interesting to look at lol

Remember all the people on here wanting a web browser when the 360 came out. Many folk said they would bin their PC's if the 360 had a browser

I like to quickly boot the Wii up to show YouTube videos and such. If the Wii browser was 720p and had tabs I'd use it a hell of a lot more.

Which is why MS will probably never bring a web browser out for the 360 as they will lose sales for Windows etc.

Yeap, i also think it would be too much of a security risk to Live on top of that.

Thats down to debate at the minute. Nintendo used the linux kernel to cut down costs but are refusing to release the changes they made to the kernel which is against the terms of distribution or something like that.

Web browsing could be good but it seems many people are having big problems with it. All from ps3forums.

http://www.ps3forums.com/showthread.php?t=59714

I would have thought that by now the web browser would have been fixed. I know other things may be more important, but I'm still kinda p*eed that I have a perfectly good machine that can surf the net, but I can't see the stupid text on the screen in 1080i because it is too small. There should be a way to zoom in and out of the page. Changing the text size is completely useless and only changes certain text and not all.

If there is a way to do this and I just haven't found it, please post!!

EDIT: Just FYI, I am using a Sony 57" projection that does 1080i native. Whether I walk up closer to it or not, I still cannot see the characters clearly.

I agree w/ the initial poster . If i have to squint to view a web page on my 61" SONY HDTV then something is not right. And who are you to say that it is a useless thread , i think he brings up a very good point ( not #1 on my PS3 to fix list , but definitely an annoyance . ) This is the # 1 reason i am preparing to install linux .

ok i have an 80 inch screen and i cant see the web browser text on the ps3 at all

Is the text easier to see on HDTV? I have 32 SDTV and the font is very hard to read.

I couldnt care how bad the browser thats why I have 2 computers for .

anyway, the browser needs a lot of work. the size thing is an issue, they should add a zoom function. also javascript only works half the time.

And then finally from the PS3forums administrator..

Most websites look terrible when they are blown up above 42 inches. Especially very graphical sites. I’ll stick to browsing from my PC until things get a lot better with the PS3 browser.

As he says I buy a console for games a PC/Mac for browsing. There's no need for this gimmick that'll be used by 5% of users.

I am very interested in installing linux on a ps3, and will probs be one of the first things i do when i actually get one :)

HD TV first tho, no point in 360 and a ps3 on my 21inch non widescreen tv now is there :P

I actually think that whilst Xbox live is a very good service and worth paying for, there must be plenty of people out there like me who dont play online all that often to justify the cost but still want the occasional dabble! This to me is why, even though it's not as good as xbox live, the playstation network is better - because it's free.

I took out the 30 day trial of Xbox live gold and now it's up and I can't justify renewing it. Maybe Microsoft should have given a 100 hour free trial instead but to be used as and when rather than in a month, then I would have had longer to review and see if I really wanted it or not?

from what i've read Casino Royale is only for a limited time isnt it (correct me if i'm wrong). With the 360's HD-DVD drive you got king kong, again for a limited time only. So not exactly nothing from MS :)

Fair comment - but at this time you DO get Casino Royale but you dont get KK :D

From what I understand they are giving away 500,000 copies. I don't think there is any sales data but i doubt the HD-DVD drive has sold maybe 100,000-200,000 (lack of availability, I don't actually think they can produce enough, but don't know any details) Plus only a certain amount were free with KK. certainly not 500,000. Although King Kong is probably a better film to showoff HD than James Bond. But I'm sure most people would prefer James Bond.

Anyway, back to the original point. PS3 has this Home thing that was announced today (Although it is beta only in April). Also it has the ability to use standard bluetooth devices with the PS3 so I guess you could just use the same headset that you use with your mobile phone. (I see loads of people using these nowadays).

Well I can confirm that neither I nor anumber of people who recieved their hd- dvd drive around the same time (about a month ago) recieved KK with the drive or any coupon referring to a free reclaim - so I think its fair to say that its not on offer any more (this is from several different forums but all from *** same territory)
