I've been approached by a company (well I made the initial enquiry out of interest) about hosting a LoRaWAN antenna on the gable end of my new build house as part of their LoRaWAN smart meter network they are building. The deal is I get paid £350 each year for having the antenna on the side of my house, although they claim it uses 7w of power so it will cost about £15 a year in leccy at the current price cap rate.

Would anyone here do this, what's your thoughts? I'm tempted but I'm sceptical.

Also possibly make sure the amount increases with inflation, and there is a process for it to be removed if they go bust or whatever (seems unlikely if it's being used for smart meters*).
I remember a lot of people in my area ending up with those funny little telephone receivers on the sides of their houses for many years after the company that fitted them went bust, although that was a different thing as it was something to do with a telephone service. Now I've remembered it I can't for the life of me remember the name of the company, or find anything about them on google :p

*As the smart meters don't seem likely to be going away.

According to your calculations it’s £27.91 per month…

Do they need access to inside of the house to service it? If so, it would be a no from me.. having had experience of landlords wanting service people to have access to properties that I’ve rented in the past, it’s a waste of a day waiting for them to come and you don’t tend to have a choice in the day or time that they booked in for.
