Feel like I'm missing out on some low end *Solved with XXLS400*

The denon has a bass settings, and can set it at -10 however this effects things negatively, using the RCA the bass doesn't do anything or the sub.

There isn't any settings other than that . There isn't much bass management from googling, probs new amp neered.

One suggestion was to send the normal speaker wire to the sub then to the speakees to use the crossover on the sub, but I'm not sure how I'd do that, the conneftorsc for that don't seem present.

Not sure bass is lacking it certainly got a good thunp in it so can't be an issue like that, this is using the Neutrik connector wired into the speaker outputs on the amp

I rekon in the future 200-300 quid if I go down the second hand route I could turn my system into a pretty good 5.1

I have to say, I was surprised at low volumes how much this driver moves and thinking that I thought, well it won't go loud, but it appears the XXLS400 puts out much more excursion than what I am used to (Z5500 10" driver), really does move, looks like the peerless driver it was almost 1.5cm and wasn't even clipping!

Saying that, 180W vs 400W, I wouldn't say it's over two times as powerful in terms of output?

Don't get me wrong, I'm comparing ability in terms of output, in terms of quality, the XXLS sounds much more refined, and on the low frequencies, the same frequency, say 30Hz, sounds fuller and lower as weird as that sounds.

Another thing, using the Neutrik connector, if I turn the denon amp off, the sub has a loud humm, so I have now choice but to turn the subwoofer off at the back, it's not a big deal as that's what I'd likely do anyway to save electric.

Thankyou I may take you up on that offer at some point, I can't get the most optimal setup with my current flat due to the fact the most optimal setup would be more disturbing to the neighbor, where the sub is at the moment means if someone comes through door into main room, they get battered by bass.

Will the sub sound different as time goes by, as in, when it "breaks in"?

I moved the sub around and for where we sit to watch the TV, the best place is right of the TV, left facing. I would expect placing the sub in the corner nearest to the neighbor would be much worse for next door than at the opposite side of the room? I feel it already integrates in, not overpowering at all and I can't pinpoint the sub really

I've got the gain set to about 20%, with the Neutrik connector the gain is much lower, when I have it on the RCA, gain is about 70%.

I didn't realise BK are quite flexibile, I could have ring them up and asked for a BK XXLS400-PR, that would have been so good with a passive radiator in that thing too.

TBH i'd set frequency to max and use your amp to set a crossover (unless it cant and i missed it). Also, are you sure you need to change the phase?

Also, does 'out' on the filter mean not in use?

Out means control it on the sub. In and it's for the amp's bass managements, I have mine to out because my amp has no bass management.

I will check when I get home, I think I'm on In, I'm also using the Neutrik connector just wired into the L/R outputs on the amp as per what BK diagram shown.

I had mine set to In, adjusting the crossover on the sub does have an effect. Might have another go at moving the sub arounds, proper dead bass in middle of the room, almost none, but I think the room is just crap.

Sometimes having 2 smaller subs in a room can be better than 1 big, expensive one; for this reason :)

It will unfortunately be a case of trial and error :/

Totally logical isn't it, you have two subs in different locations because the other one will fill in the areas where the other one misses, totally logical yet I've never thought of this, just extra loudness came to my mind lol.

I guess as long as where I sit is good, and a bonus nice low bass in the kitchen for when I'm cooking lol.

Well that's poo, my neighbor complained saying I don't know what you've done but the last 10 nights I've heard noise. I think my neighbor is a bit unfair to express concern or any peep of noises from another flat especially when it's at reasonable times, I told him what I thought and he wasn't very happy, but I wasn't even pushing the sub.

Nevertheless I turned it down as I can't enjoy it if people are moaning. Need a house I guess.

I have the front firing version, no one below except a car park. Apparently he could hear the bass through 2 rooms but it wasn't even that loud I dunno if he's just a moaner. It is a wood floor, laminate, ubede floor heating so going to be some space under it. Got the sub in m8 spikes.
