Ferrari F14 T 2014 Launch Thread

So with all the hideous looking noses that are being revealed my mind cant think anything other than these are going to dig right into a tyre barrier / under another car.
I'm sure the FIA did all the safety work on them but i wont be holding my breath for the first nose related accident.

I can see it's going to be a few months of different noses, then as one design become apparently better they will all change to it.

Possibly. But it depends if the crash tested structure the team has can be adapted to the better design. Once a front crash structure has been through homologation, that's it for the year.

Oh damn it, when I first glimpsed this I thought that it was ok, but I only saw the tip, I never expected them to go full vacuum cleaner attachment on the slope. Some of the other cars shown have an almost classic (well, early 90s) curve to the nose, excepting the extension, so was hoping that this would as well. Oh well. Roll on everyone else, let's see if there's at least one decent looking front end.

I understand what your saying, except didn't last year McLaren change their nose half way through the season? if so, it can be done.

No. They changed from a 'lower' nose in 2012 to a higher one in 2013. They didn't change the car mid-season.

In 2012 McLaren altered the end of their nose after the Mugello test mid-season to be slightly higher, that's probably what is being referred to. That was only a minor change though.

Noses can change. They need to be crash tested beforing being allowed to be used, and its a long winded and expensive redesign process. But teams certainly aren't locked into a design for the whole year. They could redesign the whole chassis if they wanted.

These noses don't seem to be much better than last years, which I thought was the intention?

Not really, its for safety.
They no longer have to have a step in the nose. But like always, pergomance over looks and that's always been the case. Nothing can be done unless they standardise it.

Nothing to do with aesthetics, crashes the likes of Alonso's at Spa have called for safety measures to be implemented whereby the nose cone is low enough that in the incidence of a tbone crash the driver won't be subject to the risk of getting injured or worse.

It's just a shame that with this the designers haven't been able to design noses which are more aesthetically pleasing.

Having said that I really like the Mclaren's nose except for the nose tip.
