Fiesta ST's... whats to know?

But we're still comparing a modified car to a standard one. And not even a cheap modified car either, STs are considerably more expensive than 182s and yet aren't really comparable unless they've had £1,700 worth of tuning gear on them.

Yeah but used you won't be paying anywhere near that extra for the tuning pack, thought you were a fan of something for nothing? :)

Yeah this is sorta my point, standard it's worse than the standard other cars, modded it's better than the standard other cars, modded against modded it again would struggle.

Sounds like the 185 package should have been standard.

Better is a mute point, with the mountune package it's got identical figures basically to a EP3.:D

Yeah but take into account it's suppose to be the more grown up approach, which means the handling etc isn't suppose to be as good as stuff like the Clio.

Your still wrong as it doesn't handle as well as other hot hatches mentioned.

You are wrong.

So how much does it cost to get a ST up to decent power? and thats not touching the suspension/handling/brakes?

Buy one already done, and the additional cost is very little, which was the original point and one that has been repeated many times already.

I'm really trying to have a proper pick your brain moment Mike as to why you think it's better but you really can't claim your opinion is fact and that someone elses opinion is totally wrong.

Point taken on that, I didn't realise it didn't cost much extra.

Isn't the Clio cheaper in the first place though?

Well, on one hand we have a car known for its handling but lack of power, and a journalist comparing one with the power fixed, to the likes of the Clio 197.

On the other hand we have Smokey who has demonstrated over and over again that he posts crap simply to troll.

Which to you believe?

I know, but even with the mountune kit thrown in you still end up paying quite a premium over a 182.

They don't make sense to me on paper, but I do understand that hot hatches are an individual choice :)

Boo hoo.

Who is this amazing 1 journalist who you seem to be banging on about? Really a 185BHP Fiesta ST is not as fast as your making out with a bhp/tonne of 165.

If you'd take a Fiesta ST over a Clio 197 your mental.

if it's so awesome mike, you get one.

...and there's Smokey, Ladies and Gentleman.

FWIW - a standard FF 182 makes 167bhp/ton, a 197 is 158bhp/ton and an EP3 is 166bhp/ton.

If there were any for sale even remotely close to my budget - I probably would.

Thanks.

That isn't what we're discussing here. Nice dodge though.

Go look at the 2010 Recap thread if you want to know anything.

i did consider taking mine to mountune for a full stage 2
in the end i ran the figures and i could be pushing 260+ in an impreza for less cost to myself.

i drove a mountune stage2 ST [as well as a clio 182] when i was looking to buy last year and felt like the fiesta was a little quicker
the clio did handle better in fairness [but the example i drove had heavily uprated suspension and brakes] so make of that what you will
the clio was certainly quicker off the mark.

main points as an every day driver:

the ride can be hard. not noticable on dual carriageway but it certainly doesnt like bumpy roads.
my car has been with me almost a year and been very reliable, minimal costs at servicing and readily available spares make it easy to sort out. pales into insignificance compared to the outlay of a friends 182 and its expensive holidays at the renaultsport garage :p

the car is desperate for a 6th gear, it makes driving on the motorway a chore, but in fairness i do country roads and a bit of dual carriageway on my daily route so it is more tolerable.

full tank lasts me about 8-9 days [20miles a day] and thats having fun. you can easily stretch it to the same kind of economy as a 1.4 by taking it easy [but wheres the fun in that]

there are a lot of optional extras to look out for, personally i would look at a facelift 06+ model as they seem to be holding their value better. i payed in the region of 4800 for mine but that was a part ex with my old car. im sure you would be able to pick up a very nice example with a solid spec for around £5k

you ideally want to try and find one that has full leather seats. i test drove a performance blue example that was really nice but had more mileage and far less spec than mine. the seats were comfy but the full leather upgrade looks a lot better. and heated seats+windows[front/rear] are very nice in the winter.

the only reason i am looking to sell mine is simply because i fancy a change. i could drive it for another 24 months and be fine with it, but theres too many other cars i want to try.

And mike, the modded argument just doesn't work. Your saying save a load of a money and buy a ST with a mountue kit yeah?

Whats stopping you buying a EP3 with Kpro, manifold/exhaust and induction? Sure it's expensive to do yourself, but you can easily pick one up with the same principle as the Fiesta, and then your looking at anything from 230-250bhp and then it's bye bye Fiesta.

Or you could buy a pre-modified Impreza STI with 400bhp. This argument could go on forever.

An EP3 with the above would be an attractive prospect, but then the Civic is a "class" above the Fiesta.

if Honda Produced a Rival to the Fiesta ST it would be a Jazz Type R.

The Civic Type R goes head to head with the Focus.

Well it is - its just not as fast in a straight line as some of its rivals.

By class, I'm talking size.

It's not as fast in a straight line and doesn't handle as well, it does nothing else better either. Geesh your not all there are you.

Funny you should mention that Mr LOL, there's a Jazz on the CTRO forum with a K20 in. Proper sleeper lol.
