***FIFA 10 - PS3 10v10 Clubs***

Sorry for leaving early - FIFA was just winding me up today with the constant disconnections and poor generics - thought it would be an EA issue as usual, so thought Id make my excuses and go...

Love to have suggestions for a form that works with 5+1 - I was completely out of my depth with 442 as my defence were either all over the place or I would only see it as it passed my defensive line...

Think I need a break and get the FIFA hunger again

Don't worry about it, I agree that we need to sort a form or something out and to be honest it's getting a bit stale at the moment, I think we all need a break from each other and then come back refreshed and better than ever. The poor generics are really, really starting to annoy me now. Fair enough if they can't outrun people, or the can't shoot, but for god's sake, they can't even pass. It's not even a skill that you can pick up by repeated playing because the generics change every game anyway. EA have really not thought about it and I only hope enough people complain at them until they make a change. I really hope this issue is sorted out in Fifa 11. There's a few other issues too, such as advantage rules, offsides, having 3 foot GK's...

Anyway, I had a few good head to head games after everyone went, I even beat Beenom once! :o

He got me back though by thrashing me. :D

Had a good game with BlueBird too but unfortunately he was cut down to 8 men by the end of the match, allowing a rampant Arsenal to crush him. :p

Couldn't stick around for long last night but had a mare in that first game, missed an open net then got sent off before half time. :( I'm sorry about that. Second game was a bit better though, we were much better than that other side and should have won it more comfortably.

My VP is a CM by trade, should I be switching him to the wings or up front to help my progress for Clubs?

If you like you can take my usual LM slot. I don't mind playing anywhere across the Midfield so it's upto you really. If you meant what's the best way to get your stats up then I'd say to use him as a striker and score a lot of goals. When you're a striker offline you usually find you have to beat at least one guy and this gets your sprint, ball skills and a few other stats up quite quickly. :)

Switch him to CB or something offline if you want to build strength too.

Don't think FIFA cares what position type you are, just where you play in game and how you do - though obviously some stats suffer, some stay the same and some improve dependent where you play...

I've done 50% of the accomplishments so far, there's probably about 10% extra that I can get easily, just need to be bothered enough to do some of the ones that require longer halves and crap opposition like 'beat 3 players with skill moves in a match.' I've done some defensive ones but there's a few more that I can take care of- need to improve my pro's jumping and heading as I'm always getting beaten in the air online.

Cool, thanks for the advice. I've noticed tweaking my height and weight slightly can improve my stats a fair bit, though it's tough to get the right balance between speed and strength.

5'10 , 198lbs seems to best balanced setup

Though you might want to wait till you get all the accel achievements

Yeah, I see it as small, medium and large.

Tall blokes are usually slow and fat, good at heading and power shots, **** at sprinting, passing or doing anything agile, medium is the best all rounder and small are really zippy and agile.

Don't know what time club is, it's usually just when everyone is around isn't it? I'd say 9pm but I'll probably be on before that. :)

Afternoon all. :)

Just posting to see if anybody is up for some Club action later on this evening. I think a few people are off playing different games for a while but may be on later in the evening. I've got a mate round so will probably be polishing off Uncharted 2 as well but I'll be on maybe half 9 ish if anybody is up for some games. :)

Woot in before Kill for once!!!

Ill be on Club tonight from say after 9.30 onwards - though I have a couple of things to say...

1) It would be nice instead of me pulling teeth and telling people to do ANY that some just have the initiative and just do it. Ive noticed that as its always around the same time that we have to start asking (especially if we arent doing well) and as much as I hate ANY I still just get my turn out of the way. Totally understand if you have connection issues or someting so you cant...

Its not a big issue at all, but to help get more games in its an unneccessary annoyance - same thing with position take-up...

2) I need help with my ANY play when theres quite a few of us (5+1 and above) - Im not that bad at ANY, but when I dont have in my disposal an outlet to move the ball from defence to midfield (while all you guys run off scared :p - anyone else noticed that - as soon as the ANY gets the ball everyone seems to run to attack and go off screen when the balls since in defence and its a nightmare as the ANY to pick out a pass) I find it impossible to construct an attack - I dont give two hoots if Im involved in the attack or not (prefer not to be especially for set pieces) but I need that consistesnt outlet. The reason why Im raising this is that Im annoyed that the last few times Ive been ANY Ive not provided any foundation for attack and all we have a hope for is a goal-less draw - 442 just doesnt help, its only used cos it can accomodate 5+1 but other than that I see no benefits...

Any thoughts other than the DR Spilt? Im unsure if the majority want that or that the actual spilt allows us to actually perform better (seems one team does well, while the other doesnt which is just status quo). Perhaps its worthwhile thinking of mini-squads where individuals that compliment each other (like have someone who is a very good ST, not someone that can on occasion shoot on target) are grouped together. Again thats quite pie-in-the-sky...

If the 5+1 situations I am ANY I think I will change my player to a defender so I know if Im turned I have someone fast to come back and tackle - perhaps thats a worthwhile suggestion to others when as ANY in the same situation? The only alternative is to play 442 with a CPU defence...

3) Can we mix up play? Not just for the sake of it, but I notice that some people do the same thing all the time (for example - cross when a ground pass is better or cut back when a cross is better...) without 'looking up' and assessing where people are or what people are doing (making a run into the box or falling off to accept a pass). I think we are really great at getting space off the ball - just need to link that up with how we pass together and identifying the percentage option. Passing back is an option if it means possession is kept - Club seems to be very brittle on the counter-attack...

P.S. Im not having a go and Im one of the first who will critise himself before others - just stuff Ive noticed and while we are getting better as a unit there are things that still need polish. I want to us to use this thread to identify that (probably not right after playing) so such thoughts are considerations next time we play. If you think Im taking this too seriously then pipe up...

Ah! Beat me to it mate. :)

1) I think everyone should take their turn unless they can't, I know Bap has problems with his connection and in that case I think it would do more harm than good for him to be ANY. I should have volunteered the other day instead of being elected El Presidente and although this probably isn't true, at the moment it seems like the same 3 or 4 people are always ANY, but that's probably more a reflection on the people that are around every night I guess. What gets me a little bit is the sitting in the DR for unnecessary amounts of time. Just get in a match room already! :p

2) Agree with that. When playing ANY the defence can't be relied on to make accurate passes as they just don't have the stats to do it. What we need is a form that has a proper holding midfielder, like a 4-1-2-1-2, so that he can link the defense with the forward / wing play. The computer generated players that we get are often complete trash and are only useful for making tackles holding down square/circle for a clearance and nothing more. When human players are disappearing off the screen to get forward it gives the ANY player a problem. We just need that one guy who can make an accurate pass out to the flanks or a through pass forward.

3) Agree with the mixing up of the play. I'm guilty of taking it up the wing and fake shotting to cut back, it's a habit that I have from playing Head to Head games as I hardly ever make high crosses but I do realise we've got a couple of people who are great at heading the ball (Jonny & Beenom) and I should cross more often instead of trying the short ball. Also I'll just add to what you've said about mixing up the play, we need to stop being monotonous. Some situations need a ball across the ground and some need a chipped through ball. A couple of times when I've played up front I've just ran alongside the last defender and had a chippded ball come through, when taking down a chipped ball it takes a second to get it under control and if your VP doesn't have immense strength stats then you will probably lose out which leaves you with the option of shooting as it comes down, or trying to hold the ball up which can be very tricky. We (me included) need to choose the right type of pass for the right situation as you say.

4) As for the DR split, I don't think it's worth it when there's 6 of us. When there's 8 I'd probably opt for a DR split but I think 6 players is usually the amount we end up with and a DR split with 6 is risky in my opinion. If one player drops we can potentially be marked for a loss, and if someone doesn't have a stable connection on the night then that could be a lot of losses through nobodies fault. Lots of teams we play seem to do well with more than 3 or 4 players and I think we can be a great team with 6 too, we just need to keep practicing and it will click. Me and Bap are fairly new and I know he's probably learnt a lot of the type of play that you guys utilise but I'm still learning. I think Head to Head matches are a good way to learn how the other person thinks and plays and that can help with reading what a persons VP is going to do in club as well. I think I play differently to a lot of you guys and I'm still adapting. :)

I'll be on about 9pm by the way. See you all later. :D
