Fifa 13

Well it was you trying to justify £40/45 that started this in the first place. :p

Thousands of people blindly pay whatever Activision ask for a new COD game and then play it for hours every day. You could argue that it's justified for them but I don't - I think it's very lazy design and programming.

You're paying upto £50 to essentially have your progress reset and a few new maps.

Well no, as I said it's market forces that determine prices. In this case, i'm using the console prices as a starting point and going from there. EA cannot possibly justify charging £10 less for the PC version when you can't trade it in and there are no royalties to pay. Also the consoles are generally less buggy than the PC version and to me, that's worth something as well. Hence how i'm coming to £25-30.

I haven't said that at all but then if you think there's no problems because your PC is fine then there's little I can do.

I'll pay what I feel a game is worth. I've explained this above.

You could pay £100 for FIFA and EA wouldn't give any more of it to their developers. It'd go straight to the shareholders so they can continue to ruin franchises like C&C.

The 360 isn't immune to these bugs & lag by the way :p

I got FIFA12 the day it came out on the 360 & that was a horrible laggy & delayed input mess. Just like FIFA11 & just like FIFA10. It has gotten better i'll admit but still not good enough & no it wasn't my connection that was playing up as it happens on every connection I've played on. Whether that be my Unlimited Sky line which I have no problems with in other games to 100mb Virgin Media lines.

EA's servers are rubbish simple as.

I fully agree with you though that FIFA at tops is a £30 game.

With the money EA has, you'd think for one of their most popular games they'd at least invest in this area..

I tend to let companies off with initial problems as it can be hard to gauge popularity. I prefer to rate them based on how well they react to problems.

And to be fair, EA have a poor track record in this department even before FIFA. There is plenty of evidence of the lag problem around the web, as well as complaints from people who have had their opponent quit with 5 minutes to go and no punishment meted out.

Yeah, even for PC. Not sure if I had a bad installation but sometimes would get rejected on seasons, go to my squad and find that all my squad was the United team with number 10's :D Not sure how..

O and please shhh about devs being lazy. u got no ****ing clue whatsoever how hard software devs work especially in the game industry. if u had a ny clue you wouldnt be saying rubbish like that. Sorry too attack u but im a dev and i know how the software industry works.

Yeah you sound totally legit. :p

fifa 12 for me was unplayable before midnight every game was vs a laggy kid I am done with the game methinks. It's looking so dated now it looks identical to fifa 12 lol at all the sheep that are buying fifa 13 hope it doesn't lag and have bugs that aren't fixed for ages like fifa 12 but I doubt it.

No more grinding out profit for ultimate team is a relief for me,spent more time trading than actually playing what a waste of time.

I just think in general I am bored of this console generation bring on the 720 and ps4 already.

people who say fifa 12 didn't lag have no idea what lag is or simply played late at night when for the most part the lag was bearable but most people wouldn't notice input delay lag if it came and bit them.

If you are going to have a football game lag is a big no no and for me this will be the exact same again ie the servers overloaded and most of the player base being kids on shared laggy family connections good riddance fifa.

And don't get me started on momentum.

Nonsense. I played at all times of day with no lag and I only have a 10Mb connection. Even 8 year old console kids understand what lag is, let alone people who post on a computer enthusiast forum, so that claim is frankly absurd.

Fifa is the one game I resort to paying full price, the day it comes out. I get so much out of it and there is nothing better out there.

I got my PS3 for fifa 10 mainly. It went in the console and barely came out. I got fifa 11 and that stayed in until fifa 12 came out. This will be no different. There has been some massive changes over the last few years I've started playing again, and I think this year there's still more than enough to justify the price.

If you think only one or two things change :o I hear this argument every year, anyone who actually invests significant time into these games realizes there are literally changes going into the hundreds and a majority of them in gameplay. Simply adding a new dribbling mechanic can change the game ten fold as an example, but there many subtle changes people who don't play the game regularly will simply not notice.

This just doesn't apply to FIFA but every sports game I can think of.

They have something similar for PES (Pro Clubs/Team Play) although not anywhere near as structured as in FIFA it's just random matches without being able to form a club and get a record going.

It was an exaggeration to make a point. There just isn't enough improvements. I have a list longer than my arm inregards to the gripes and missing features in FIFA. The most annoying thing is that the general feel of FIFA hasn't changed much from past FIFA games I owned, still the same old static and scripted gameplay and still the same old gripes albeit in difderent clothing, (e.g. stupidly overpowered finesse shots is like 30 yard long shots in fifa04 that would go in unrealistically.)

PES online mode is unfortunately poop, another annoyance of mine, this game has been around for ages yet they still don't bother adding basic online modes, but at least with PES it is usually reasonably priced.

The best deal at the moment I can find is with Tesco entertainment. Seems to be the standard edition though.

£22.01 when usng the 15PREORDER code and maybe another 8% off through quidco bringing it down to £20.

I would highly advise against using Tesco, awful company, I pre-ordered Fifa 12 with them as they were the cheapest, did it arrive? Nope, they sent an email saying they didn't have stock, I ended up cancelling my order and buying from a reliable outlet.

The dev's can only do so much with the time constraint they have. Anyone expecting a 'new game' is unrealistic. That will only come with the next-gen consoles. And you can bet your last dollar the next-gen version will be console exclusive for four or five years and we pc gamers will be left with the current gen version again.

Well I wouldn't expect a new engine to come out every year, that is next to impossible, but substantially improving a game and adding features is what I expect, not a half-baked game that is cleverly marketed as being vastly improved when its not, I think one of the PES guys was spot on in his description about EA.

Fifa 12 gameplay was changed quite a bit from fifa 11. impact engine springs to mind.

The impact engine is useless and a gimmick that doesn't even work properly, the only thing they improved in 12 was the tactical defending, and even then that is let down by other areas of the games, such as odd AI movement.

Sort out your dodgy connection before slating fifa

If I had a dodgy connection then I would get it in every FIFA online game mode (which I don't) and in other games I play online, so go figure...

Calm down jonny lad ;), I come from a computing background too and have done certain software dev and infact have some unfinished personal dev projects so I know it is hard. But quite frankly that is no excuse, EA is megarich so can employ a big team of multi-talented devs who get paid to write bits of code, its not that much of a ask to see some reasonable improvements in a game is it? I don't like being insulted by being shown a well marketed sugar dusted game that really beneath the skin isn't much different to the previous, the improvements they are adding to 13 to me seems like they could have just added to 12 with an update patch. I'm not asking for a whole new engine, that would be unreasonableand and stupid, but what I would like is decent improvements if they are going to ask more than £20 for their game.

I don't like this apathetic mindset we have where we think or accept paying over the odds for a product that is not worth the money, it's the reason why we get ripped off and pay over the odds for everything in this country, from taxes to public transport.

The improvements and additional features they are gonna add in FIFA 13 could well make the game a much better experience than 12, and I hope it is, but I still object to the price they want to charge, hopefully the cd key sites will have them for around £15.

They should get the finger out with their own game and improve it before criticising others.

The pot calling the kettle black and all that malarky.

I've found the PES 13 demo gameplay brilliant, they have vastly improved the game and added really good improvements, much much more fun and dynamic to play than FIFA and if you like passing footy, the combo passing you can do is ace.

I figure that you don't need to be able to use the English language to be a software developer then?

There are lazy Developers, there are lazy people the world over. There is also the need for profit.

Really? I thought the pes13 demo was the worst in years. The touch system and physics were awful. I passed the ball to a defender and it just bounced off him and into my own goal, a serious wtf. A player could take a touch and its suddenly 10 feet away from him and that happened a lot and it wasn't just me, my brother got the exact same. The passing was dodging due to the bad touches and he overall feel of the game was also ruined by having stupid arrows over the pitch when doing certain passes and having the names above the players just takes away immersion from the game (although I suspect that can be turned off). There were more bad stuff but it was an instant uninstall after several games.

are u high?

Some game modes changed too including a brand new head to head seasons mode never done before.

The game has hardly changed at all in the past few years. Cut the bull**** about being a dev as well it doesn't help the argument at all and for working so hard you seem to spend a lot of time gaming lol.

Thats probably the first touch control or whatever its called, you can't expect to hit the pass button and any player including a technically poor defender control the pass like messi, you need to hit better passes and control the ball. Same feature will be in the new FIFA and its a a good addition. My main gripe with PES 13 was the same old lame animations, can't wait to try the 2nd demo though.

As long as they can find a suitable way to punish the rage quitting cry babies on pro clubs ill be a very happy bunny, i think the first person that quits as soon as a goal goes in should get a timed ban from the servers 1st offence 1 hours, 2nd offence 2 hours etc etc until after maybe 10 time ban them for a week or even reset their pros.

There must be a way for EA to tell the difference between someone bugging out due to a poor connection and a complete mongoid quitting because they just got out played

Yeah but it happened way too often even on slow balls and even on throw ins. I also play full manual on Fifa so I doubt skills are lacking although maybe practice, either way it just did not feel right and I just didn't like the gameplay at all. I am looking forward to Fifa 13 a lot though (especially since York got promoted to League 2 and now in the game)

Didn't like it, found it stuttery as with previous versions and not that responsive. Don't like the default camera view and when using the wide or blimp cam (can't remember the name) you need a bloody magnifying glass to see the action. It's like looking at 22 ants from 5 mile away.
