FIFA 18

EA have definitely changed more than they've let on. The slower and stronger players seem to have come in to the game more and the pacey players have been weakened/slowed down.

It's more noticeable in Squad Battles where my players are slower but the AIs are still ridiculously quick so counter attacks and through balls are all but useless for me but a guaranteed shot on goal for the AI.

Edit: This patch is atrocious. My last 5 opponents have all played PTB and been able to hit 3 driven passes from their box to mine. PTB has gone from OP to game breaking now.

I'd say the patch as a whole has improved the game mainly due to the fact I've not conceded any where near as many kick off goals that being said I've lost 7 games this weekend in the 120th minute. Never had that before, makes me wander though if I could convert those to wins or win 50% in a pen shoot out I'd have a chance for elite. Sold Neymar too today, he was good but stamina was poor and got lost a lot picked up TIF Son. If only EA would upgrade it.
 
Not sure about that. Changing my formation certainly helped me concede less but I was playing 4-3-2-1 before the patch and the same after and conceded more immediately after the patch. I also conceded two in the same game in Squad Battles for the first time this week after 200 odd games.

I've gone to playing 4411 possession style football as that is clearly they way EA want you to play Fifa. Quite good fun and certainly have more control of the game.
 
You know what, that's exactly how I tried to play in 15 and how I've tried to play all the way through 18.

As much as I dislike the patch for breaking some aspects of the game, making others more OP (PTB) and completely changing the balance of the game it's actually benefited me massively.

4-3-2-1 was way to attacking, as I finally realised against Andy, and not good enough to retain possession so I've changed to 4-2-3-1 and I'm now at 13/12 and getting hate mail :D
 
Jim, ITT = in this thread or do you mean get gud? Generally means stop moaning and practise or stop playing.

If you genuinely get angry/annoyed at the game why carry on playing? I don’t get the negativity around everything EA do. Doomed if they do/doomed if they don’t.
 
For me, every WL seems more difficult than the last, it's weird. I normally get at least 20 wins and my best is 28, which I think is above average...

I never lose heavily but often to dodgy stuff, like in my last game, the other guy had Oblak in goal who is nothing special, and he must have made about 10 ridiculous saves against well hit low driven shots.

Formation doesn't seem to make any difference either, the defence will still end up in stupid positions.

This patch seems to have made things worse too, some of the first touches my players take are truly shocking, and lead to goals etc.

Because when the games good its great. For example I haven't any major lag since before TOTY, the new patch takes away some of fun but also negates the spaming of 1-2's up front.

As for EA nah they are at best incompetent at worst company which doesn't care 2 hoots.
 
I don’t bias my opinion on what the pro’s think Nem. I base it on my own enjoyment.

Jim, you may say they’re incompetent but they just posted up their profit for the year and it suggests anything but. If people don’t like it they aren’t saying it without still pumping money into the game.

My recollection of pre patch Fifa was any player scoring long shots and defenders stuck in treacle.

Without getting into the economics of things with EA they are a massively over valued company notice I say EA and not EA sports. Their entire business model is based on loot boxes, when the roof falls in on that the profits aren't going to be so rosey. I've posted a really good video about it. If you search you'll be able to find it.

Ironically I don't have a problem with pay2win or loot boxes - but for the love of god either do some proper UAT or build in unit testing into your game. Off the top of head here are a list amateurish errors just from this year :

  • Spelt Mkhitaryan's name wrong
  • Bugs which allow disconnects still in the game for Esports
  • Network capcity or netcode issues
  • Lagging menus
  • Random crashes on PS4
  • Random clearances still in the game after they said they had removed them
  • Zero support if you have a problem with your account
That's literally 5 minutes of thinking. My problem is with all the profits they are making its madness and they haven't fixed or addressed all the well documented problems. This patch is a step in the right direction but how patches have they released now? All of them have dramatically changed the game play without mentioning it in the release notes why do you think that is?

Why do I keep playing you ask? Its one my hobbies its the only video game I enjoy playing and when the game is playing well its a joy.

Pre patch the new defending felt like a new challenge to learn and I was shocked how much the 1st patch changed that but the OP long shots made it a poor game.

Agreed, it’s full of flaws but I just think we are stuck with it and either play it or don’t. I enjoy the game inspite of its flaws. I can’t see loot boxes going anywhere.

On a diff note, WL being extended has been great. 5 games left.
 
Yeah the extra day makes a world off difference. Hoping they will do the same again, can't see it though. We will have to buy '19 for that.

I'm with SuperMan here, as you know. The only discussion I read on FIFA is this one on OCUK, I don't really watch many streams/youtube vids or read threads on FIFA as its just depressing to read, I would implore you to do the same. I just go on my own opinion and even the things you have mentioned diva are not game breaking for me. You can't possibly criticise EA's model and then give them hundreds of pounds. If you are that against it, boycott the game or suck it up and just take it for what it is, a game :p
