FIFA rejects FA's poppy appeal

No, just because of choice.

Can't you have respect without showing it?

Once a year? Like I said no respect at all.

Probably be a lot different If it was a symbol to mark the respect of the players involved In "Munich air disaster" or In Liverpool's case the fans at "Heysel" though eh?

I don't see what the problem is, different generation I quess.

FIFA are not belittling the efforts of the soldiers. It's the floodgates argument; if they allow this, every country will want to do their own little thing and soon it'll be hard to know where to draw the line. It'll just create more rows if they allow it.

No wonder FIFA are sick of the FA tbh.

So by your thinking Angerer I have to pay into something to respect the loss of the vets?

Does this not seem wrong to you? People can still show their respect by other means, Just because they don't wear a poppy doesn't mean they don't have respect/don't remember the guys/girls who have lost their lives.

It is far from a disgrace. The media is blowing it all out of proportion totally.

[edit: Robbie G hit the nail on the head.]

I got nothing else to say.

Cheers

Er what? You didn't even answer the question?

So I have no respect at all if I don't buy a poppy? Oh ok then minute silence, paying my own respects in the way I want to counts as nothing.

Okkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk.

Anyway this is going off topic.

This is about FIFA remaining neutral & not letting ANY country do this. Seems fair to me?

I will add this

As an alternative, the FA said England players will wear black armbands during the game and lay a wreath on the pitch during the national anthems.

no respect huh?

We've played at home something like 11 teams on or around this time of the year in the last 15 years.
This is the first time we've been bothered to try and force FIFA to allow us to change our shirts.
Why the fuss now? why no fuss previously?

It's completely incomparable to Munich or Heysel.

Who's showing the most respect then, the person who has donated to the charity but chooses not to wear a poppy, the person who hasn't donated but chooses to wear a poppy, or the person that has donated and is wearing a poppy?

You can't measure a persons respect for something by how much money they give or by the items they wear.

Haven't you heard? Nowadays it's all about letting other people know you care. A quiet thought to yourself before bed is not enough, you need to broadcast your feelings and make sure everybody knows you care and that you are a good person. What's the point in charity if nobody knows you're charitable?

You missed my post above so I'll post it again

No double standards at all FIFA are not stopping the England players wearing black armbands!

I didn't miss it, its just the is no difference between what the poppy represents and what the black armband will represent, hence a double standard.

It isn't a double standard though!

It is written in the rules that no country can put things onto their shirts. If Italy wanted something put on their shirts to remember Rosato that would have been turned down also.

Black armbands is a universal sign of respect to the loss of life within football. Hasn't it always been this way?

This is well out of order, FIFA should be ashamed tbh and FA should just ignore them and do it anyway wasn't for lives of our fallen that stupid frog in charge wouldn't be there.

I think its cos of attitudes like this that FIFA are trying to stop.....or remain neutral if you will.

The poppy is closely associated with the second world war and is used in the uk to remember as you put it 'the lives of our fallen' well isn't there the lives of the other fallen (you know the germans, after all they started it) but do they use the poppy as a mark of rememberence? If they dont (i dont know if they do) then the wearing of the poppy could be seen as anti german (may as well call them nazis eh, sum them all up cos of a smaller group of folk), but since Hitler was Austrian, then maybe it should be anti Austrian.

Either way though it can be seen as a division in the 'world football family' but hey calling a frenchman a frog is ok

No, not always, its a British symbol of mourning, just like a poppy.

Then what is the problem with wearing black armbands? Showing the sign of mourning/respect of life.

They can still wear their poppys before the game & after it. They are also allowed it on the training kits before the game.

I guess I'm the same as Alpherah. I don't get why it is being blown out like this when no one has even bothered with it in the years gone by.

I can completely understand why FIFA have made this decision. Opening the floodgate and the such like.

Saying that, I find it disgraceful that they'd ban something like this. It's an internationally (particularly commonwealth) recognised sign of respect for those that died in war. Personally I would say it transcends a national thing, and if players want to show their respects they should be permitted to. Simple as that. 10 points in my book if a Footballer gets a poppy dyed/shaved into their hair xD

Completely agree, it's a shame it comes from the ego and not the heart.

Sad that its causing all this conflict but its giving the poppy apple more publicity, how about all the players donate their fee to the poppy appeal.

They have enough money.

Shame but rules will be rules. Would be nice if the FA had an alternative for the game at Wembley... perhaps digital poppys on the advertising board, a large poppy banner for the fans to pass around the ground before kickoff, something that's not prohibited.
