FIFA World Cup 2014 - GROUP B [Spain, Netherlands, Chile, Australia - 13/18/23 June] **spoilers**

Well he probably thought this would be a easy warm up game to give him a run out without having to work too hard. I don't know when his surgery was or what VIdal/doctors have said. I would think they would have said he was okay to try. Ultimately if he can't play in the easiest game(relatively speaking) he's got no chance and they and he will want to know.

This has ben a very entertaining game, I thought Chile would thrash Australia before kick off but Australia have been doing most of the attacking second half.

So glad that was a cracking game today! Usually the top billed games dissapoint and teams are too cautious. Holland came to this WC prepared and ready to go, fantastic display. Although I don't like him, can't deny Robben's talent, nice he finally shows up on the big stage.
Let's hope Germany vs. Portugal will be a cracker (along with England Italy :D )

so great to see spains boring (imo) football get spanked again

was chuffed enough last year when brazil dared to do what no one else would and go all out attack on them to win the confederations cup.

this was even better :D

Robben was fantastic though. That guy thumps them in, that sixth he almost got just before Torres failed to poke it in. Jeeze. The power and technique latching onto the clearance on the volley.

Still think holland need to replace Sneijder, he was poor compared to the rest.

He was quite poor yesterday. However, both him and Van Der Vaart ( who I don't think is in the Dutch squad on this occasion ) are very talented individuals. Sadly, they haven't always paid attention to their careers. When Sneijder is focussed and fit he is formidable. He needs a disciplinarian manager to get him on track ; Van Gaal might just be that man.

remembering keenes fantasy WC team, saying how van percy should be in as he's a goal machine, awesome goal! and seemed to wake up Robin :) great game!

Shocking loss for Spain, thought they would win it especially the way Netherlands played in the first half till RVP's goal which was an absolute beauty. 2nd half was completely different, Netherlands just tore Spain apart and it was just embarrassing to see them capitulate like that. Personally i think Spain are done really, they may get out of the group but i cant see them going any further than the QF's if anything. Costa is just so overrated, can only hope he flops at Chelsea next season.

The Chile and Aussie game was pretty good i have to say, Chile i thought would absolutely smash them to pieces especially in the first half. But defensively Chile look suspect, the Netherlands should score a few goals against them i reckon. If the Aussies had better quality up front, i reckon they could have drew or even won that game...they had enough chances to really get back into the game.

Cracking games yesterday, Mexico having 2 goals incorrectly ruled offside :/ which was funny but sad at the same time. Thankfully they won in the end though.

Meh, don't have haven't ever rated Sneijder, he is lazy, selfish and stupid. He does the wrong thing more often than not and has had almost no good seasons.

He takes a HUGE number of shots, his last "full" season at Inter in which in the league he started 16 and subbed in to another 5 games he took 78 shots and only scored for. That is shooting more than Fabregas, iniesta, most midfielders who play twice the number of games. He only managed 4 goals from all those shots. Sneijder has for many years been propped up by a team who do all the work and let him get in shooting positions or won him freekicks he could take. 43 shots in the champs league in 9 games, scoring 3 goals, that season in 22 starts for Inter he took 107 shots and still only scored 4 goals, and had 5 whole assists. When playing a creative role, with little to no defensive responsibility, taking most if not all the freekicks. he isn't anywhere near as good as he thinks he is.

9 goals I think is his best return in any league since leaving Ajax, that was taking over 90 shots in his first season after leaving. Before leaving he scored 18 goals in 30 odd games for Ajax.... but how many people have we seen score that many in the dutch league and never come close to replicating it anywhere else.

Galatasaray is pretty much his level, and he's not doing well there either, but will be on a huge wage thanks to his (undeserved) reputation before that.

VDV I think is a better player and does a hell of a lot more for the team, but he's not a good enough scorer or crosses to take up a wide attacking of strikers position, and far far too lazy defensively to play in midfield. He's creative and will score a fair amount, there are just better players for a first team 11, better goal scorers, better crossers, better midfielders. I'd play VDV over Sneijder in the team but neither would be close to the first 11.

Felt a bit sorry for Xavi last night. He was Spains standout player for me and worked his ass off in the middle of the pitch. Not sure he gave the ball away much either but there's little he could have done to change the result.
