FIFA World Cup 2014 - GROUP D [Uruguay, Costa Rica, England, Italy - 14/19/20/24 June] **spoilers**

Poor old Suarez, at least now he's finally got his revenge on the pesky FA for daring to ban him for racial abuse and biting someone. Witch hunt.

How many Italians play abroad? That's just making bs excuses. Overhyped players propped up at club level by foreigners who are technically more capable and useful than their lunking uk counterparts.

At the risk of believing all the league stereotypes isn't that because the Italian league is far more technical whereas ours emphasises speed? Our you players need to learn the technical skills as well so it is likely to improve them if they go abroad.

We have a long shot at qualification now and I can see a lot of hopeful people on my fb. I think Italy should win their last two games, although Suarez will cause them a problem as well. I don't think we have shown enough in any game even back into qualification that suggests we could do the business against any of the remaining teams in the competition even if the miracle does happen.

I also think Italy would be happy with a draw against Uruguay so won't do us any favours.

That's certainly what he thought last year but turned out not to be true. Arsenal met the release clause in the contract, Suarez tried to engineer the move and Liverpool decided they weren't selling anyway. I think later the owner said that release clauses hadn't been tested in court and their legal advice was that they weren't enforceable. Suarez also took legal advice and involved the PFA but he is still at Liverpool so there is probably some merit to their view. Even if they are wrong it would take a long court case to find out, by which time the transfer window is long closed and he has to keep playing for them anyway.

If RM came in with a more sensible offer (£80m+) then it will likely start the whole charade again. The only way I can see them accepting the offer is if they think they will get enough to improve the team.

Contractual commitments are 100% enforceable in law unless signed under duress or they breach a fundamental employment law.

I would suggest there was no release clause, just a suggestion from Liverpool that should they receive an offer of or around 40 million they would consider it.

I guarantee you 100% that if it was in writing they would have had to honour it without question.

Um we haven't shown anything that makes me think we deserve to go throygh or that we have a chance of winning the world cup. Therefore it would be fair enough if we just pack our bags abd go home as much as I love football and hoped England could do okay. We're just inferior right now.

I'm sure I read thay even if Italy win against Uruguay they can still go out, so a draw might not be best.

Edit. NVM Got that wrong.

Oddly though Italy can still go out even if they win tonight

I thought Uruguay was supposed to be an easy win, according to the media all week you would have thought so.

Our players are over hyped, we have to many international players in our English leagues.
Added to that I believe international players up there game against us or have the advantage of knowing our players very well having played with them all season, i.e Suarez!

I still can't comprehend moving the most damaging playing against Italy, Sterling, from his role in the centre. Rooney was better yesterday, but as usual he was dropping too far back and leaving Sturridge isolated

I don't think Roy is allowed to drop Rooney due to the FA/sponsorship etc. and we have players who will do a better job for the team out on the wing so the only justification for playing him was to play him where we played him.

People have been saying that he was our best player because he had chances but most of his chances were from set pieces, the shot he hit straight at the keeper he stole the ball off of Sturridge who was winding up for a shot and Rooney's goal (a tap in lets remember) was created primarily by a frustrated Sturridge out on the wing beating 2-3 Uruguayans.

IMO playing Rooney in his favoured position is nearly always detrimental to the England TEAM, it might make him look like he's having a great game individually and even work on occasion (or often against the likes of San Marino) but in major tournaments we always look completely ineffectual and devoid of ideas as an attacking unit when Rooney plays there.

I think that it comes down to each of the big teams having at least one "worldclass" player becuase its these guys who stand up and make something happen to for their teams to win - the backbone of most of the teams are fairly standard with not much in it. When we had Linekear, Beckham, Shearer etc around in their era's we nicked games and won. Clearly there are no "Worldclass" players in the current team so we are fairly mediocre. Rooney may be our "best" player (dont agree) but he clearly isnt one of the special players that change games.

Spot on, there is absolutely nobody for England. Decent yes, "worldclass" not by a long shot. It's a shame because I think they have the best attacking options for a long time but now the midfield and defence is lacking.

The two matches basically came down to small margins... Last night Suarez had two chances and scored two goals, Rooney had 3 good chances and only scored one. I wouldnt say we have under-performed, we held our own in both games but the other teams were just more clinical with their chances. No point blaming the manager or the players as these are our best players, the question I suppose is why we don't have better players?

I just spat coffee all over my keyboard

I think the obvious answer is why the EPL is the "best league in the world !!!!11one" They foreigners are making it what it is. There is rarely a lot of home grown talent in the bigger clubs.

Don't think I'll even bother watchin the last game.

It's just not good for the soul to get hyped up for an england game only to meet disappointment. Every damn time.

I think you will find that it is entirely the players and the managers fault.

Again, I'm not too downcast. Unlike many others, I do not expect to win every game. We aren't bad, we just got beaten.

The 'top four attitude' of fans is getting out of hand, that everyone just turns up to get beaten.
