FIFA World Cup 2014 - GROUP D [Uruguay, Costa Rica, England, Italy - 14/19/20/24 June] **spoilers**

Apparently a player in the final 23-man squad can be replaced by anyone if he gets injured. The replacement does not have to be picked from the stand-by list.

I think Lennon or Townsend should be called up to replace AOC. Neither are amazing but they both have pace and can play wide. The England squad has very little width and pace at the moment. Either of those two would be good options.

I'd rather Joe Hart played on the wing then either of them. Flanagan is the obvious replacement.

I'm not a fan of either and they've both been poor this year, but if Hodgson's going to replace him with another midfielder, they'd both be a more exciting sub than Cleverley... but then so would Paul McShane... and he's injured, Irish and ****.

If we're going down the route of taking players who aren't even on the standby list, I'd rather take Adam Johnson despite his poor finish to the season.

Given the lack of options though I still think we're best off sticking with the Ox.

I'd give Flanagan his chance, even if only to experience a World Cup. He has earned his place with the way he has performed for Liverpool ever since coming into the team.

Depends on how well he responds, but yes, if the time off is before he gets back to playing, then great... if it means back in training... hmm.

It think it's highly doubtful he would have started (though he ought to have been changing Hodgson's mind on Wednesday), but he is the sort of guy you'd want on the bench, someone who can change the dynamic of a team and potentially make a difference. Yeah, I think if he's expected to be ready for the knock-out stages, it's worth the risk.

Seems this is an injury prone WC :(
Walcott and now AOC, no doubt Wilshire will go the same way.
Ribbery just had to withdraw, Ronaldo is hampered with an injury, Suarez might not recover in time, few out for Spain and Germany.
