FIFA World Cup 2014 - GROUP D [Uruguay, Costa Rica, England, Italy - 14/19/20/24 June] **spoilers**

You do talk some arse sometimes.

He's scored and created mores league goals than Suarez and Aguero two out of the last three seasons.
In 13 goals time, he will be the 2nd highest goal scorer in premier league history.

Suarez has been playing for a team finishing outside the top 6 for two of those years. Aguero spent much of this season injured.

As for second highest scorer, who cares, he's one of the longest serving strikers in prem league history.... in terms of length of time/games played while at a top 3 club. How many other strikers have been with a top 3 club for a decade, have any? He's played 53 games more for Utd than Henry did for Arsenal, Henry scored more for the club but maybe less in the prem league. Rooney could end up one of the highest scoring strikers in the prem league for a very long time because frankly speaking, not many other strikers spent their entire careers in the premier league. The majority of foreign strikers barely spend 4-5 years here, Henry is one of the very few to make it to 8 years, Rooney could play 15 seasons for Utd.... it would be surprising if he wasn't one of the highest scoring strikers. If Lambert spent 15 years playing for a top 4 club in the EPL you'd not be surprised to see him be one of the highest scorers in league history.

It's a meaningless stat that points to longevity, not quality.

For club alone Aguero scored 32 goals in 31 starts and 6 subs, with several injuries, playing injured in multiple games.

Rooney scored 19 goals in 37 starts and 3 goals. Who really had a better season. Aguero took less shots to do this as well.

I thought Barkley was great last night. Yes he loses the ball at times, sometimes too much, but it's nice to see someone so positive every time he gets the ball. He's always looking to get forward and make something happen. His run and pass for Lambert showed what an asset he can be to the England side, but I think Roy will end up leaving him on the bench for most of the tournament because he's worried he'll give the ball away too much. What I don't think Roy realises is that England aren't good enough to play possession football and pass teams to death, so losing the ball shouldn't be a concern. We need players with magic in their feet who can make things happen. For me, that's players like Barkley, Ox, Sterling and Lallana. Hopefully all 4 of them will see significant playing time in the WC.

This is the bloke who is probably a season and a half away from being England and Man Utd's all time leading goalscorer.

Overrated.

Ruddy, Stones, Flanno, Carrick, Cleverley, Carroll.

The one good thing to come out of Milner's poor impression of a right-back is that Roy might call up Flannagan or Stones instead of Cleverley (who would be the obvious replacement from that list).

England were shockingly bad.....but then so were Italy. Maybe we can scrape through past them.

Italy always improve game by game in major tournaments. England maintain the same standard (ie. crap) all the time. Based on this I doubt we'll make it out of the group stage.

Cleverley and Carrick really shouldnt be on that list, they have been embarrassing this season.
Stones and Flannogan are the only real choices there.

I wouldn't replace him based on that list. Usually I don't think there's an excuse for bringing an injured player along, but whoever is called up from that lot wouldn't play anyway, and if the unthinkable happens and we get through to the knockouts, the Ox could be a big player for us.

From a neutral (well scottish, but not anti english at all) perspective I was quite impressed with some of England's play last night, though the defence hasn't looked good in any of the friendlies, though tbf both Ecuador's goals were a bit special whereas England's resulted from very good possession and build up, they did tire quite badly it seemed too though.I wish Hodgson would be brave enough to leave rooney out tho, jeez he's massively overrated imo.

I hope he still takes Oxlade-Chamberlain - sounds like a minor sprain from the projected healing time, so he could potentially play from the 3rd group game (June 24th) or knockout games.

I think his performance last night warrants his inclusion, and I'd rather we took a decent attacking option rather than call up a reserve who probably wouldn't get to play or contribute much to the team.
