FIFA World Cup 2014 - GROUP D [Uruguay, Costa Rica, England, Italy - 14/19/20/24 June] **spoilers**

On Welbeck, standing close to another player is right there at the absolute bottom of footballing talent lists. Any footballer can do that, literally any footballer, being able to run up the wing and actually pass it to a team mate rather than trip yourself over trying to do a trick is a pretty important skill for a footballer, one that Welbeck doesn't have.

You keep saying "he'll stretch Italy".... by running into corners and then losing it, as he's done for the past 4 years? That isn't stretching, again ANYONE can run in a straight line, anyone can kick it down the line and run after it, it's the bit after you catch up to the ball and need to do something useful with it where he utterly falls flat on his face..

Anyone can do it and yet you are here posting on an internet forum and he is in Brazil representing his country. ;)

Betfair Exchange. England 2.42. Italy 2.6.

Wow you are right. I don't get how that works.

Italy dropped from favorites with that goal.

I've criticised Ozil for not standing near players? don't think I have, but make up whatever it is you want.

You've criticised him consistently for his workrate. If it's so easy, you'd think that every player would work as hard as Welbeck.

Also, as nobody responded to it last time, I'll repeat my point that last season he scored the same number of goals, at a better ratio of goals to games, than Negredo and Sterling, and three more than Barkley in fewer games. Usually coming from wide, and playing in a Utd team which was frankly atrocious.

It does make me laugh, welbeck clearly isn't am automatic choice or a world class player but he has something about him and a knack of scoring at international level. He isn't dross as so many seem to think and he is a good honest pro who will put in a shift and give his all for the shirt.

He is a different player to lallana which is why he is in, welbeck is quick direct and has a decent scoring record in international football, lallana isn't a great goal scorer and lacks pace if he was a better finisher and a yard quicker he would be messi/Ronaldo class.

Don't think 1st place will make that much of a difference tbh. If I remember correctly, Group D plays group C, which is made up of Colombia, Ivory Coast, Japan, Greece.

Colombia, Ivory Coast and Japan can all be beaten by Uruguay/England/Italy.

First I said any FOOTBALLER could do it, secondly, you're mocking someone with a physical disability, so no I can't play football because my legs are crap... feel big?

Where does work rate come in to it? I haven't mocked his work rate as it goes, I've said he's basically a big girl when it comes to tackles and fighting for the ball. However, he's not a defensive midfielder NOR did we pay 42million to have him designated as a spoiler with only one intent.

Player as a useful all around football providing a positive force for the team, and wasting a place on someone dedicated to following a single person are very different things. Gilberto, for me one of the best DM's ever, didn't have to ignore the rest of his game to mark someone out of a game. Any footballer can dedicate themselves to a single task on a pitch, but in general 11 players who can do everything pretty well will do better than 10 guys who are decent and one guy who is only being played for something a better player could do but also do everything else better.

Ozil has never been picked to simply mark one person and do nothing else, therefore I have never criticised him for not being good at it, simple as that. He's a huge girl and won't stand up for a fight, and he's unfit and often poop, but he's still running, albeit incredibly slowly at the end. But we don't play him to be a midfield spoiler.

If it stays like this lowly Costa Rica will top the group of death (three former World Cup winners!)

Then in the Quarter Finals England will play either Brazil or Netherlands. :)

It's not gonna be a football match on that pitch to be fair, so Welbeck might not look so much worse than everyone else on account of them not being able to play football either :D
