Rooney has looked good precisely twice in this game, both times running forwards at speed, once into space for the goal with a good cross, once when he had a not great shot but at least pulled some defenders out the way and looked difficult to stop.

This is what is making Sterling look so good, get the ball, run forward. It gives the defence less time to get ready, it makes them back peddle, pulls people out of position and makes space for others. Rooney from what 16-22 or something got the ball and ran forward, lately he drops deep with back to goal looking for a pass then thinks he'll be a playmaker. He's so rubbish at it, will someone tell him to just run forward when he gets the ball.

Latter I think, MUCH better to lose this and have Sturridge for the next two games than get off the utterly useless ROoney and risk STurridge. We look a bit clueless here and some fresh legs upfront won't hurt.

Probably a good idea to call Rooney over for a "chat" and just put a bag over his head and drag him into the dressing room as well though
