FIFA World Cup 2014 - GROUP D [Uruguay, Costa Rica, England, Italy - 14/19/20/24 June] **spoilers**

haven't seen much media putting unrealistic pressure on him. Quite the opposite, most don't think he should be there.

Over rated and rediculously over paid.

Looks like its going to be out in first round.

17 goals in 29 league games, yeah shocking he's there considering how great united were this year. Shearer can shut up, prior to Euro 96 people said he shouldn't be there.

The reason people single Rooney out is, aside from multiple england managers(probably at the urging of the FA for monetary/sponsorship reasons) keep playing Rooney which keeps hurting the team.

When we play him as a lone striker, he drops deep, wants to be the main man on the ball all the time and is cack. When we tried him as a number 10 starting him deep so he could get on the ball and do what he wanted, he was cack. When we played him wide left, he drifted into the middle, tried to get on the ball and be the main man, and was cack. Rooney basically once in the whole game looked like a left winger and...... created a goal. he won't stick to a position and hurts the team, and that is his fault. Him consistently being picked when he hasn't done anything to deserve it isn't his fault. But he could and should still have done better and played the role he was given better than he did.

Rooney dropped, with Sterling wide and Barkley/Lallana central. Maybe drop Welbeck as well, all the closing down is useless when the final ball is crap, and he didn't close down when it really mattered at that corner. Actual quality in the final third means more goals scored.

Disappointing. I do think the next 2 games are winnable though, but we need to shake up the team and gamble on the other young players a bit more.

Sterling was good, Welbeck was decent, Rooney was poor. He needs to play up front or not at all.

The Italians just got the lead in the second half and then killed the game, and we couldn't break them down. :(

Wonder if people were watching a different game to me. Pretty poor show? Really?

We did a hell of a lot better than I thought we would - we scored a good goal and tested the keeper / went close several times. On another night 3 of those go in and its a different story.

Defense was poor as a whole - but not completely unexpected. Playing Rooney out on the left simply didn't work - back the drawing board for that one.

Subsitutions were completely ineffectual. Wilshire isn't the right player for this England team, he is looking for intricate Arsenal style passing - thats not how this team is set up to play. Barkley showed some promise. Llalana was a complete waste of time.

I think if we play the next 2 games as well as we played this one, we'll go through comfortably.

Tactically inept performance thanks to a tactically inept manager.

Italy had a game plan with the wings. If De Sciglio wasn't injured the same would have happened down England's right as well. England didn't really have a 'plan' when attacking, especially with Rooney on the wing.

England could've won that comfortably if Baines had protection and some better final ball and finishing.

Sterling has to stay central, he's the best player there

That wont happen as the coward of a manager is to busy shoehorning the utter **** Rooney into the team.

Decent performance. Italy was always going to be a tough opening match, but Uruguay were shockingly poor against Costa Rica and I'd still expect us to get though.
