FIFA World Cup 2014 - GROUP D [Uruguay, Costa Rica, England, Italy - 14/19/20/24 June] **spoilers**

gerrad was bad he isnt world class.

some will be like wtf at that statement but you look at people who are world class they perform. i honestly cant remember last time i seen him dominate .

whatever they were doing with shrek worked for the goal but on avg he struggles for england. to often now needs someone else to take his spot so he earns it. hes had his chance and the younger newer players showed they are 5 times as good.

talk talk all about how master pirlo is a god and they let him just dominate them. why wasn't he closer marked , hounded ?

if he was closed down more i think england could have done it but as usual we were just waiting for the boot it up front and run approach.

positives - the youngsters was very impressed with hopefully they play as they did tonight and dont fall into the england failing system that we seem to do to ourselves.

Yra only because wjen we got the ball we'd punt it 50 yards and then wonder why we were chasing to get it back lol.

Barkley did little positive after his introduction. If we didn't over hit every cross I guess we might have created more chances.

Agree but we all know Gerrard is better then 50 yard punts. People need to look towards the manager I'm afraid.

They were chasing the ball for the majority...you can't question their fitness lol.
It was 50/50 possession for the majority of the game, it only ended up 56/44 after England ran out of steam in the last 20minutes. I've not seen the final distance covered stats, but certainly Italy had covered slightly more distance on average uptil the last 20 minutes as well.

We can still qualify even if we lose to Uruguay as long as Italy net 9 points. Although we can and should get 6 points. Uruguay's defending is worse than ours.

Well let's just pack up and leave now shall we?

I'd love to see people try and play 95 minutes is professional football in our country, let alone the climate of Brazil.

Rooney needs dropping like a stone, time and time again he has proved he is not a National team player. I dare say Gerrards need a stiff talking to as well, but at least he has proven himself.

I can just imagine the sponsors and FA being on the phone to Roy if he was on the bench for the next game.

Again we need some tough decisions, the Germans have no problems dropping key players and look what they have done, again its the team not overrated individuals that do well, unless you are really really really good. Rooney isn't.

They just waltzed down our left, i lost count of many times baines was out of position. I cant help thinking cole would have done a better job defensively.

Total distance covered is pretty meaningless. It's the number of sprints that's more telling. England tried to play in high intensity spurts and it back fired. By the 70th minute we were spent and that's why Italy took over as the game went on.

Things were made worse by trying to play a 2 man midfield against their 5. With a half decent manager we'd have beat them.

I wouldn't say it backfired, we tried to beat them early doors and it nearly worked. The Italians are a more experienced team than us with far more technical players.

Roy has got an England team playing football that is worth watching for the first time since 1998. I think laying the blame at his door is a little unfair. We were beaten by an experienced team which simply knows how to win.

Having a read of some of the italian papers - they think it was a hard fought win by Italy. Plent of respect for England, especially Sterling. They were surprised Henderson started, i think many expect Wilshere or lampard to feature.

They read into Rooney on the LW as a way of us attacking their inexperienced RB who ended up bossing, but actually I think we did that more to accommodate Sterling.

Generally they seem to be on a similar page to us. I often feel our media and fans over here read into the games / our players incorrectly. And i'm always interested to hear if other nations take us as a dangerous opponent and what their thoughts are on who should play.

Again, Brazilian papers do view our group as the group of death and said it was a very tight duel and plenty of competition.

It honestly was a GOOD performance from England and people need to stop being so negative.

Yeah I agree, I just don't know what England fans expect. Only Sturridge scored more league goals than him last year, in a far better team and only 4 more goals. Only Gerrard got more assists(english)? This from a united side that was pretty god awful, playing negative football. So we play this man as a winger?

Madness, play him upfront or not at all.

You can still play him wide providing you've got cover in midfield. The problem yesterday wasn't personnel, it was tactical.

If you're playing a 2 man midfield you can't then play forwards in the wide positions because your fullbacks will get isolated, which happened. And because that was happening Rooney was caught in a half way house of not having the freedom to influence the game in attack while also not giving Baines the cover he needed.

Whenever Liverpool played Suarez wide, whichever wing he started on Henderson would play on the same side in a 3 man midfield. Henderson's energy meant that Suarez didn't need to worry too much about tracking back and at the same time our fullbacks weren't left exposed like Baines was. There's no logical reason why England can't set up the same way.
