FIFA World Cup 2014 - GROUP D [Uruguay, Costa Rica, England, Italy - 14/19/20/24 June] **spoilers**

But wasn't I on about shots that rooney could/should have converted into goals (From positions he'd find himself in his native position), not his winging ability? (And as said, he's not a winger, we have better wingers)

And no one's saying that another player could have delivered that ball. Change a player in a match, and you've got a different end performance, so you can't say either way, we may not have even conceded one if we'd played someone else (Purely because the game would be different)

I think it was a good thing to try - someone "like" rooney has potential to put a team like Italy off balance played like that - but definitely something they should have hashed out and dismissed (or confirmed) in practise.

TBH still think it could have worked never mind Rooney if they'd used it to pull Italy out like they did and then make better use of Gerrard and Sterling to play the real game down the other side as it opened up. Instead they kept trying the same old thing that obviously wasn't working.

I wouldn't call saving the best striker in the PL when you're 2-1 down (Before they went 3-1 down) a smart move :p
25 minutes or so might have done him good tbh, it'd certainly help gauge how ready he is since his surgery too.

Probably because he's on £300k a week and he's useless.

Don't personally care how much he is on, infact good on him if he is on that, I'm not even that into football usually, but tonight he was plain embarrassing on the pitch which for someone of his profile just deserves ridicule.

just know Suarez will net a hattrick vs us

Stick with what they were trying tonight and its pretty much a certainty, given the promise some players showed and better utilisation of some under utilised players though and I think we have a very potent team.

EDIT: The only possible positive is that maybe other teams will also consider him so much a joke they let their guard up when he does happen to come out with something brilliant.

Other than sturridge which Englishman scored more goals last year? Who got more assists? In a woeful moyes side. Sounds useless doesn't he. I think only Gerrard got as many assists. I bet you wish Chelsea signed someone for millions as useless?

*yep in the theoretical multi-universe system 99.99999999% of the universes rooney does'nt miss the goal from 8 yards? but in ours he does, he always does.

*prolly not that accurate.

Poor Utd or not, still a UTd side, but break down the results just a little.

Goals Stoke, Fulham, Cardiff, 2 Spurs, Hull, Palace 2, West Brom 2, West Ham 2, Villa 2, Norwich 2, City consolation goal.

Assists, Swansea 2, Norwich, Fulham, Arsenal, Cardiff, Villa, West Ham 2, Hull.

Since end of December he has no assists in the league, and scored against Villa, West Ham, West Brom, Palace and Norwich.

The massive massive majority of his goals and assists came against dire teams playing poorly against Utd and his form got worse as the season went on. Being able to score two against Norwich near the end of the season doesn't mean he should be starting for England. Utd are, regardless of having a bad year, a far far stronger team than almost all those he scored or assisted against. He also takes a fair amount of freekicks and penalties so wouldn't be surprised if quite a few of those are from assists.

Even ignoring Utd, he's played for England for years and never looked good for them. League form is a good indication of who should GET A TRY with the England squad, but when you fail to perform to a good level against the better teams for multiple years, then you've had your chance. He was dire, and by quite a distance the worst player on the pitch, and that is pretty normal for Rooney for England.

Only got in about 30 minutes back and, whilst I may still be absolutely slaughtered, whoever it was that claimed Rooney to be 'World Class' was having a ****ing laugh! Even I could've buried that sitter he ****ed up!

Typical England performance, typical woy team. Whole team faded badly 2nd half whereas Italy got stronger, England players going down with cramp 60 minutes in is a massive indicator something is wrong.

Sterling England's best player (not saying much).

To add to the Rooney debate. He was ineffective 1st half on the left - the assist is all about Sterlings pass. 2nd half he was atrocious, despite playing in his 'best' role.

Not getting out the group.
