FIFA World Cup 2018 - GROUP G [Belgium, Panama, Tunisia, England - 18/23/24/28 June] **spoilers**

I thought it was a very fair rugby tackle, not high, arms well wrapped around opponent, nothing a rugby ref would have blown for.

In football however its a clear penalty, and verging on a deliberate professional foul needing a red card.

Are people always this biased? Did no one on this board who are claiming for this penalty genuinely not see Stones clearly foul his marker before Kane was fouled? I find it baffling how people are completely ignoring it...

As for Kane, do you honestly think 2 shots in 90 minutes is a good return against opposition of that quality?

They are not a bad side. Highest rated African team apparently. Seems a bit harsh to label them poor quality. They are top of their continent.

England don’t even make the top 10 of Europe imo.

You're acting like they only did it once.

How dare people get slightly carried away and passionate about their home nation team:mad:

But the ref had already blown up, so the VAR team had plenty of time to look at them.

It was a penalty. I didn't think so at first, but the replay shows he caught their player with his arm. Did he mean to? No. Was their player creative in getting fouled? Yes. But an arm across the face, in the area and metres away from the referee is most likely going to be a penalty.

The thing that gets me though is later in the match their keeper caught one of our players in the face with his elbow when trying to punch the ball but when a goalkeeper does it nobody bats an eyelid.

Pretty happy with the result and the general performance overall, given it was our first game.

First 20 minutes were great and we should have been two or three up really. Lingard fluffed a few chances, as usual, but was other than that pretty solid. Don't think Sterling played particularly well and ran in to a lot of dead ends. He certainly wasn't helped by the movement up top though. A lot of times it felt like all players ahead of the ball were static, which led to a lot of sideways passing before we finally moved things forward.

Rashford was great when he came on and I think he should start, although then you lose him running at tired legs for 20 minutes as a substitute.

Tunisia are a decent team and played well. They pressed England high up the pitch and we dealt reasonably well with it, but occasionally played ourselves into trouble trying to play out from the back. Can see a costly error occurring this way against better opposition.

Walker's foul was a penalty, but by the same standards, at least one of the tackles on Kane should have been as well.

Great to snatch it at the last minute though, especially after Tunisia took their time with every throw in/freekick/goalkick.

Looking forward to the next game, especially as it won't involve me staying up until 4am this time.

Really hope we can score a boatload against Panama. It would be nice to be able to 'take it easy' in the 3rd game against Belgium :p

Tunisia are a team that it seems are very comfortable with cheating to gain an advantage. Sadly.

The number of players who were hitting the deck screaming, clutching their face/shins, when replays showed minimal contact, was absurd. The game was in places a complete stop-start-stop mess. At least one Tunisian player was spotted doing the "Ronaldo peep" - you know, rolling around in agony, but having a sly look to see if the ref is paying attention.

They did not deserve to get anything based solely on how blatant their cheating was throughout the whole game.

Which is sad because I thought they also played well and matched England, or bettered them, at times. Especially with their passing and comfort on the ball.

But like Barcelona and Madrid, I can't get behind any team that is prepared to sanction cheating to gain an advantage. It may be smart; it may be what professional footballers are trained to do; but cheating is cheating.

England has some players who cheat disgracefully - Young and Ali I'm looking at you - but the Tunisia team were all at it.

The ref last night was awful. The penalty against us was soft as hell and Tunisia were super dirty. We should have won the game by a hatful but out finishing wasn't top notch, they got a little lucky and I think it was first game nerves for a lot of the players. Can't complain really.

It was a scrappy win, Kane was stood on the exact spot where the ball came to him, scored two absolute sitters and missed every shot that required some control.
If any of the England team actually had some proper finishing skill last night then it would have been 6-0 plus. At least they ran around quite a bit and didn't look like they'd all been on the cigs, beer & kebabs pre-tournament.

Yes, he gave him quite a shove!

Finishing was a bit lacking but at least when they turned up the tempo things actually moved - there was a sense of urgency getting the ball out into play again, etc. trying to get the win rather than the stagnation and lack of daring to do anything that creeps into so many games - which was nice to see.

I think the big problem ultimately was the back 3-4 players who seemed to lack a lot of confidence which was somewhat unsettling those towards the front as they weren't confident in the players behind them. I'd say pull someone further back like Trippier who seemed to know what they were doing and confident to take some initiative to give the defence some direction but he was crucial in the position he played, imposing a touch forward of his role rather than back, acting as the glue of the team. Maybe a goalkeeper who is a bit more forthright to take control of the defence.

I'd like to see Rose on left, Trippier on right to add some balance, nothing of note came from the left. Happy with that as a 1st game overall. If we had the rub of the green, could have quite easily been Kane on 4 goals.

I have watched most the games this World Cup and the officiating has been really good.

Last night though the officiating was really bad.

I smell a rat!
