FIFA World Cup 2018 - Round of 16 [30th June, 1/2/3 July] **spoilers**

Credit to the England lads though, it must be hard to keep your cool when you’re constantly being kicked, elbowed or head butted. Many people would not be able to stop themselves from lashing out.

trippier needs to go. slipped up a few times now. decent teams will punish mistakes. great to see them through but they nearly choked hard england style.

not great performance but as long as you win i would take it. we can give more but team needs tweaking.some weak links.silver plays.

Trippier? He's been our best player all tournament and had a good game last night, he was one of our best players imo.

Walker was the only player to drop an absolute clanger last night.

That rashford pen was cool as you like and he's only 20, this guy has great technical ability that we need. Start him.

Probably our best penalty, right in the corner with power. What balls from the lad!

Rewatched the game on MOTD, had butterflies even though I already knew the result... so damn delicious

Good point made on the radio this morning; Trippier and Maguire have been two of our best players so far and have only risen to prominence over the last couple of seasons. It's nice to see, and proof we should pick based on performance rather than name.

I'd drop Ali for the next game and play Kane/Vardy and Sterling on the wing.

I would drop Alli unless he was just unfit last game and is back to full fitness by Saturday. He just looked off the pace and wasn't moving so well.

England have been playing so poorly for the whole tournament I can't believe they made it through! Seems like most of their goals have come from penalties with hardly any decent goals/conversions.
Delighted to see them go through against Colombia though - bunch of thugs...

A lot of people in this thread need to get a grip.

Some weird mentality where nothing England does can be good.

The team is young and inexperieneced. The expectation from the beginning was that they play as well as they can and make the most of the opportunity to develop. They’ve exceeded that expectation and have already done enough that we should be proud of them. If they go out in the next round we should all still be happy with how they’ve done. To come through last nights game as victors proved their determination and composure in a game that must have been ******* awful to play in....that’s commendable and the most valuable experience we could ask for.

These lads have got a long way to go but they’re definitely on the right road for once. Can we not just celebrate that the approach is right?

Some people think any team who doesn’t play like 2012 Germany is ****. Grow up and stop pushing your bitter agendas, trying to interrupt everyone else’s happiness. It’s pathetic.

That's easily one of the worst games I've seen in a long time, sure Columbia were very physical and probably deserved one red card, but England still failed to capitalize on all the corners and free kicks, it was appalling to watch.

Two shots on target in 120 minutes of play? :o

Not sure on that one to be fair. Average age is 26 and while a lot of the squad may have less international experience nearly everyone one is a champions league player.

Agreed with the rest though. :)

Hull City fans like myself would certainly agree with you. Harry Maguire was excellent for us whenever he started for Hull. His marauding runs from a defender were often a sight to behold and really is a crowd pleaser. I'm a big fan of Maguire.

I think some people just feel reluctant to enjoy the ride, they'd rather sit there, pick holes and moan just to be the ones to say, "I told you so" rather than rally behind a team which has exceeded most people's expectations. The amount of times people moaned about "lack of experience" before the World Cup, where are those people now? I've seen some far worse games than that last night (this tournament included) - guess it depends on how much football you actually watch.

Penalty takers would have been decided ages ago, no point giving Vardy stick. Every single penalty was a decent one, even Hendersons wasn't that bad but a good save.

I'm a little gutted that they scored straight after that ridiculous save by Pickford meaning that we didn't get to see it. Great penalty save by him though. Sweden have some industrious players so it's not going to be an easy game.
