FIFA World Cup 2022 Round of 16 ** spoilers ** [3rd - 6th December 2022]

USA were better than Iran and Senegal though, no? My point is, England get found out when there's anything resembling decent opposition. They scored really easily against Iran and Senegal because those teams were utter crap, but not a single goal against USA. Don't get me wrong, I want us to beat France like everyone else. But I don't see it happening and will be happy to eat my hat if it does.

You can't apply logic to football results like that. Japan topped a group with Spain and Germany. Germany are out. Morocco topped a group with Croatia and Belgium and Belgium are out. A game is a game. Anyone can surprise anyone. England can beat anyone.

What? Targeting of the rich by armed home invaders is caused by the cost of living crisis now?

With the risk of swaying too far off-topic...IMO it's feeding the disparity between the wealthy and working class, so yeah I would suspect we'll see more of this as more people are affected. It's not just one thing mind, but we're going to see some rather desperate behaviour if things don't improve, this isn't something new, the crisis has been building since 2016.

Just look at the Euros we had people storming a stadium :\ That's been somehow brushed under the rug.

Honestly... I'd love to be able to, but I can't shake the feeling France will do us. They were my pick for the tournament before we kicked off while it seemed most people were going for Brazil or Argentina.
I had the same feeling Italy would beat us in the Euro's final :(

France will be favourites and rightly so but they're beatable. If we bring our A game we can do them. I just hope if we do go 1 up Southgate will have learnt his lesson from the last 2 tournaments and go for a second.

What's happened to Grealish anyway? I thought he was supposed to be the second coming, in fact, I'm sure he was pretty awesome a year or so ago and now seems to have gone off the boil?
his style of play is the complete antithesis of how man city play (he comes across as a bit thick as well so has/will continue to struggle to adapt his game :p)

Don't know if this has been covered already but Sterling went home because there was an armed break in at his home while his family were there.

Footballers are going to have to get armed security at this rate. Its ridiculous. Hope him and his family are all OK.

The police have confirmed the house was empty at the time.

To be honest I'd hope these guys have decent security already as they must know they're massive targets. Everyone knows they're all minted and everyone knows where they are for a few hours every week!

Aye, France haven't looked anywhere near as solid as I imagined.

Tbh I'd have welcomed an early Senegal goal yesterday. We haven't been tested on the backfoot yet and that could be our fall against a Team like France that always look so lively up front. As you said, we need to play for 90 mins on Saturday and keep going at them.

Cup football is always that you can never really predict what happens. Bulgaria got third place in 94, Turkey in 02, Croatia 98 and finalists in 18.

England just need to turn up on the night and they are beatable.

In the Euro's France resulted to Sam Allardyce tactics putting the ball to Mbappe to draw with Hungary.

Absolutely. This isn't club football. There will always be paper favourites and a lot of the time the better team will get the result, but the beauty of competition football like this is that your playing the team on the day. Form counts for nothing when your up against a side like Japan or Morroco that will play you off the field on pride alone. You can't just rely on the talent you've brought along to serve you like they do there clubs each week, you have to be more dynamic then that.

I don't know how much 'proper' security guards cost but I suspect most England internationals can afford them quite comfortably. I guess the issue is more around privacy, like would you really want a security guard hanging around.

He's struggling to adapt fully to City's playstyle while his City playstyle is making him worse for England. Honestly depressing seeing this as a Villa fan, what could have been...

Yep. Said it at the time but of all the big clubs City was the worse place he could have gone. Makes you wonder whether they'll try shift him next Summer, though god knows where he'd end up.
