Final Fantasy VII

they could make sephiroth a bit harder to beat at the end I suppose, but first time round most of the bosses were difficult for me, once you understand totally the concept of materia and the way it affects amour and weapons it makes things a lot easier

for example the Materia keeper in Nibelhiem mountains and Demons Gate at the Temple of the Ancients were really hard to beat first time round.

and I think the main reason for me not getting into ff8 was the materia system in ff7 was a million times better and more interesting

The only problem I had with the Materia system, was when your party got broken up for various reasons, you would have to spend 30mins removing the materia from the old party members and moving it accross to the new ones etc.

True but that was half the fun, because materia affected characters in different ways depending on what they had equipped.

loved it

There's an option to transfer the entire character's materia across to another character in the same slots but obviouly they have to be there. Keeping armor updated across all characters shouldn't normally be difficult, as you always get armor drops during your adventures for everyone.

Would people be happy if they changed certain statistics?

For example, Increases HP/MP, Increased Difficulty.

or perhaps, Give the user an option at the beginning of Classic and Expert?

Expert being Uber difficult :D

That'd be really cool :) FF7 is too easy for me now because I've played it too much :D

Still my favourite game of all time :)

This is the only PS2 game I never traded in.
Thoroughly enjoyed playing it first time round. May have to dust it off again if I can find the time ;)

Im playing it through again for the 4th time now. upto the temple of ancients :)

My mate is playing it through for the 2nd time on his psp (dont ask)

We have both had lengthy discussions about how a remake should be handled... The way we see it is.

1. Do not change that story! its perfect.
2. Add some more side quests that just expand on the characters but dont effect the story. You could easy have more on cid for example.
3. Make the Golden Saucer emense! put loads of mini games in and update the older ones..
4. Battle arena.... online ;)
5. Add some more "weapons" to kill some.. Some uber hard ones same idea as ruby and emerald
6. Real music like mentioned here

And i think that about covers it for me. None of this would effect the story or game play.. just expand on things to do in the game if you wanted to do them :)

I badly want a remake lol

If they did remake it, I hope they'd just improve the graphics and not change the style of the graphics, I love it as is.

But yeah, new mini games, quests, materia, harder bosses, bigger world map (doesn't have to affect the story at all), better weapon system (make them customisable, build in status effects etc), loads could be done.

Saying that I still play VII loads and probably will for many years to come as it is :)

They need to expand on the history of Cloud and Zack - sure we have Crisis Core for that, but it needs to be elaborated upon in the game itself too. Other sidestories such as the discovery of Jenova in the northern continent, Aeris' mother, the Turks and Nibelheim really needs to be expanded upon too. The ending is also incomplete by Square's admission so hopefully that would be looked more into as well.

Nibelheim and it's reactor is such a huge focal point of the entire storyline yet it's skimmed over at best. It's where they made the mako-infused super soldiers and clones, where Shinra execs stayed outside of Midgar, plus the whole Cloud/Tifa's past thing. How was Tifa's memory altered too? That was never answered. Cloud's memory was altered due to Jenova cells and mako-infusion yet Tifa was never subjected to the same treatment. Nibelheim was also the turning point where Sephiroth lost his sanity and destroyed the entire town only to be mysteriously reconstructed without leaving a trace behind, and its history rewritten in a Stalinist way by Shinra.

There's a hell of a lot of questions that a remake can answer, but then again - the appeal of VII is that it left so many elements of the story wide open for intepretation and discussion; it can be argued that this is one of the biggest draws of the game. Its overall ambiguitiy lends to the timeless charm.

playing the remake....all that buggering about getting a gold chocobo so I could have the Knights materia!

oh and as for the updated gfx, I can think of a great scene that would be cool....when Cloud dresses up as a woman and has to put of the 'advances' of that bloke who likes to hipthrust a lot!

I didn't think Tifa's memory was altered. When Cloud first tells the story of the Nibelheim incident, Tifa later reveals that she didn't remember Cloud was there. She was confused by the fact Cloud was claiming he was in Zack's role, so she didn't say anything at the time.

Of course, Cloud was actually there, but as a regular soldier (not a SOLDIER), and didn't reveal himself to Tifa.

My god I have to play this again, I just love how the twists and turns unfold, There's not been a story to match it.

They really need to release this as a ps3/psp downloadable game tbh. I wasted many many hours in my uni days on this game.

I could easily see myself loading this up on the psp and playing the whole game again.

rp2000

The best system in any of the final fantasies, Hell, best in any RPG. :D

You never played FFV then.

Jobs>Materia

I still love FFVII because it was the first FF I played and the first console RPG I played, but it lost the Best FF crown to FFVI which was awesome. The massive shame of course is that FFVI wasn't the one released on the PS1, that would have been even more awesome in 3D.

I'd still fork out for a PS3 if they remade it though. I've got the PS1 NTSC version sat on my shelf.

I would imagine that FFVII looks damn fine on a PSP screen and sounds just as good with a good pair of headphones. But that's only supposition on my part because it isn't available for download in the ps3/psp store so I wouldn't have any experience of playing it on a psp.

Cmon then, FF7

who were your main 3 :P
most of the time I use Cloud Red XIII and Cid, but I'm thinking of using Vincent this time, its just a pain in the arse to get his ultimate weapon up to scratch
