Final Fantasy XV demo available

Played about 3 hours of the game last night, Didn't really get anywhere as spent most of my time running around and listening to the guys talk to each other.

Not played enough to judge but I can imagine the combat may get a tad repetitive as its is a toned down hack and slash but so far that is my only criticism.

Anything without copious amounts of Fira, Firaga, Bio and bahamut zero just isn't FF imo. This game is oike open world devil may cry..

Only played an hour thus far, but my fears have been put to rest...

Absolutely do not want to go to work tomorrow.

Is that the special edition?

What does it come with?

I ended up putting the combat system onto 'Wait' mode about an hour into playing to stop it being too much of a hack and slash game. It's quite nice as you can choose to override the wait timer by simply moving around or holding the dodge button.

The risk that come with exploring the wilderness with the day/night cycle is quite nice... my first trip out had me running for the hills when night fell and the high level monsters started spawning. I was having a leisurely walk through some level 2 creatures when a level 35 Iron Giant and three level 20 Bombs decided to rise out of the darkness and chased the party all the way back to the road.
The party starts talking about daemons coming out at night a little bit before it happens, so they give you a bit of a heads-up that the area is going to get dangerous before you find yourself trapped in a sea of impossible to beat daemons.

It has Fira and Firaga, unsure about Bio though.
I can see the comparison with Devil May Cry though with the way you zip around in combat like a mad banshee on the default combat settings.

Have you played the game?

If anything the combat is like the witcher only jazzed up a bit. Light/medium/heavy attacks. Roll and dodge. Magic and a few other mechanisms. A skill tree to shape your preferred play style. Enemy strength/weakness to certain elements and weapons.

I'm 18 hours in and now needing to use potions/elixirs quite heavily and think about how to approach a battle. Quite different to the button mashing in devil may cry.

Magic is created using a combination of items and element type.

I'm beginning to sound like a fanboy now ha :p

Would you say it's essential to watch those Brotherhood and ... the other 5 episodes which I forget the name of, before playing this?

Played just under 5 hours last night, absolutely blown away with it so far! Cannot wait to get home and play it all night :)

If you've got a PS4, this is a a must buy!

No need to watch the 5 episodes of Brotherhood or the Kingsglaive film, they're nice for story filler but it's not a requirement to get into the game.

The anime is free to watch though, so no harm in watching if you enjoy anime and want to know a bit more about the characters.

Not essential, I've got it but not watched it yet. Just under 5 hours in to the game and it's explained enough so far :) Game feels like nothing I've played before, got the same feeling as playing FFVII for the first time :D

Thanks for the replies :)

The FFVII comparison has me intrigued! It's the only FF I've really played and I loved that so if this is as good then I'm happy.

Hopefully my copy is arriving from Boomerang games today.

Yes definitely. It throws you right into the game assuming you know everything that's happened.

I know others have said otherwise but I would recommend watching it tbh

Except FFVII started with a sense of urgency and throws you into a situation and unfolds a small to a hige plot line in front of you. Keeping you engrossed from start to finish.

not sure ffxv does this.

The game is very different from VII but it still feels like nothing else I've played before, which was the same feeling when playing VII :)

I'll watch the film tonight/tomorrow but the game is so good I've not been able to pull myself away so far :)

Just popped round the corner to argos to grap the SE version. Out at collage tonight not home till half 9 but I dont need to to sleep do I?

So far one thing that has stood out to me me is how damn relaxing this game is, any of you find that? There's something relaxing about driving, stopping off at diners listening to the game world sounds etc. I've seen some huge monsters which actually made my jaw drop. Graphics are really nice, some textures are a bit iffy but I'm nitpicking as that's the trade off with huge open world games. The camera annoys me sometimes but it's something I can easily get used to. I can see myself clocking up some serious hours! Also fishing..enough said :D

Yes, it's definitely got a very relaxed atmosphere to the early part of the game.
I'm strangely pleased that I can choose to do little-to-nothing during combat and just watch the action happen by either wandering around or holding dodge... I hated the automatic combat in XII but it feels more natural in this one.

The only thing that has annoyed me about the game is that it forced me to mess with my TV settings as the UI didn't quite fit inside default screen scale. This is the only game that has required me to do that on my PS4 so far.

Yes! Also very nostalgic- final fantasy 8's 'balamb garden' and 'blue fields' playing whilst you ride around in the regalia. Make sure you buy the mobile tape player from the regalia shop.

Few useful tips here. Particularly about the Ignis regroup technique and the AP points when riding/chocobo which I've only just done.
