Final Spec Thread!

I know that but the one he quoted was a i7 9series and not an i7 8 series.

No I didn't!

Anyway, Really stuck now, i5 760 or Amd 955, not to much difference in price. Both set-ups will support xfire, both can be upgraded with better procs.

Although the AMD will possibly give me a better upgrade path, the i5 will give me better current performance and still an upgrade path with the Socket LGA1156 i7's.

Decisions decisions.

More input please!

its cheaper than a i5 build, and strong rumours that the next gen bulldozer CPU will still be AM3 fitment.

Works out to be like £17 cheaper yeah. If it is still Am3, I'll be laughing, if not, I'll be weeping at everyone else's lovely i5's and cursing you! ;)

if it does not happen, at least AM3 has a hex core CPU.

intel 1156 is being binned for 1155, so it's unlikely intel will release anything more, leaving the i7 8** cpu's as far as you can upgrade.

I haven't seen anything indicating any particular direction other than forum members talking like we are...

However, I very much doubt that the new Bulldozer chips (dubbed APU's & not CPU's) will use socket AM3 as this is the first truly new AMD architecture since the original K series all those years ago... With a beefed up mem controller, die shrink and new gpu interface chances of it using AM3 IMO are slim to none...

Which is why I suggested the i5... if you look around I think you'll find an i5-quad will outperform a Penom X6 ;)

Ok it's from last year, but still...

Go AMD and spend the £17 you saved on a litre of vodka and drink it if AMD brings out Bulldozer on a new socket. Win/win.

Be careful not to count your chickens though, I still think it'll be an "AM3+" esque socket, and will need support from the motherboard BIOS. So pick a really, really nice motherboard manufacturer :p.

Now is a odd time to build a new rig. What with the new ati cards due and the new AMD cpus coming.

Having read the article posted above about the new cpus, i am a lil surprised. However if you can't wait it may pay to get a cheap mobo now and a 955 (up multiplier by 1 to make it a 965). When the new mobos are released you can upgrade the mobo but still use your current cpu, then upgrade the cpu if u feel the need.

Good luck with the build which ever way you go

Some one in the MM is selling this PSU.

Corsair HX 620W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU

Would that be enough to power the Xfire Amd System?
