Finally, a real comparison

IF that's a TRUE comparrison (I've still got my doubts that's a FINAL release), but if it is, then I'm quite surprised. Not as big as I thought it would be.

The thing is the PS3 is an odd shape. Every comparison pix I have seen have been layed out so it is difficult to acctually see a difference in size, yet from the measurements we know there is one.

TBH my PC is in a tank like coolermaster stacker.......its like.....massive. you could fit 4 or 5 of any of those consoles in it. Yet it looks great. Whats with the whole size issue?

Maybe some peopleare feeling a little insecure...

"Dear Deadrie,

When i make love to my wife i try to be a stallion....but she just keeps eyeing up my PS3 and licking her lips! She says its the shiny coat, but i know its the size! And its black too! It's so demeaning, Please help!"

But when you look at the 360 and PS3 it looks pretty much the same.

The PS3 is still a big console. It's larger than the original Xbox.
I know you're gonna defend it until the end because you want an import desperately, but you must admit, it's very large.

Size personally doesn't bother me, it could be built like an 80's VCR for all I care, I just wish it wasn't ridiculously ugly. I do however have enough money put aside for a console come launch.

But surely actual size doesn't mean anything but it is in context?

Sure the PS3 might be 30mil bigger here and a wee squeeze extra here, but when looking at it it doesn't actually look like it. Especially compared to most of the jokes about the PS3's size.

Yeap it is larger, but the way a lot of folk go on you would think it is 20% larger than a 360, but looking at the pic it doesnt seem that way.
I want to see straight on side by side pics of the 2 machines and also see them in cabinet setups.

my word all i did was say it would be interesting to see a comparison with the power brick included
well that and annoying fanboyism in every ps3 and x360 thread on the forum

A PC goes on or under your desk in your bedroom/study.

A console goes in the lounge.

In a TV cabinet/stand etc?

Yeah if you like.

The point is a huge PC in a study/bedroom doesn't look out of place.

A lot of people don't use TV cabinets and have limited room, that is why people like their consoles small. My 360 barely fits in the current setup I have, I think the PS3 would have to squeeze in to fit as well.

Most people surely have something there TV sits on no??

My stand takes a 32inch screen so width and depth are not an issue, you only have a height restriction, and from that i dont think the PS3 is that much 'fatter' is it? I think its only a matter or 4-5mil in fatness?

Nothing goes on the stand in my lounge, least of all an ugly console.

Secondly the reason the PS3 probably fit is due to height, not width.

Yeap thats what i am saying, iirc its only a matter of 4 or 5 mil?

Edit sorry its 15mil

See, this is the interesting point for me. I'd much rather have a seperate power block anyway for several reasons:
1) It's easy to replace if it blows rather than shelling out for it to be repaired and have it's warrenty kept in tact.
2) It makes the console smaller. Size isn't a big part, but smaller is better.
3) It makes the console lighter. I use glass shelves infront of the TV and they are already heavily loaded with Sky, DVD player, Amplifier and Xbox360 (with it's PSU on the floor behind the stand). Although not a huge difference I'm sure, weight it weight. I also move my consoles around a LOT and take them around my friends house. I've read several reports that you won't be lifting the PS3 up with 1 hand (something I can do with the Xbox360 and PSU). It must be very heavy.
4) It doesn't create added heat inside the console, something thats happened many times with my PC's in the past, it also caused problems with my Dreamcast. I'd rather disperse the heat away from my console.

There are no real advantages to be found in having the PSU built in.
