Yeah bit steep
Well for my requirements anyway
And not long renewed with plusnet
So would be some cost involved if switch isp
Though I might actually get a better deal
As a new customer elsewhere
All the best deals and cashback offers
Seem to be for new customers not existing ones

Regarding damage

And drilling

Plusnet small print specifically says



We'll drill through your wall from the outside of your property so we can connect the Full Fibre boxes and cables.



so not drill from inside?

Or will the engineer just do whatever

regardless of that small print?

I find with my 900Mbps service the download speed drops from 112MB/s to around 40MB/s and then back up again, I don’t know if it’s my ISP or everybody’s is like that and it’s the EA App.

The good thing about having a 1.6Gbps service is it would boost to 200MB/s then drop down and back up again, meaning faster average speeds.
 
So they are basically just saying
They will drill a hole to fit

They drill the CSP on the outside
Then bring the cable closer to where you want it
Do you know if your done by underground or overhead wiring?

The download I did on my Xbox this afternoon did dip a few times, but wasn't nearly as bad as the dips on my old Virgin connection.
 
Regarding download speed
If using steam or other apps then yeah
Variations could well be down to the app/their server
Plusnet small print says we guarantee minimum 275Mbs
No idea if that's standard or specific to each customer
What minimum guarantee of speed is

But to be honest I probably don't need it
Only 2 of us here
And other than her streaming tv
i basically have full use of available bandwidth
Have ordered 500Mbs just now
Should be able to upgrade to 900Mbs in future
If games get much bigger and I feel the need
For more speed

They are coming on Friday to fix the damage
Engineer today was disgusted when he saw the install
The cable should have also been white
Which makes sense, given the walls are white

was that after you contacted them?
if so must admit thats a fast response from them
and rightly so
problems can happen
how they are dealt with makes all the difference

I think they are just talking practicalities of drilling from the outside to avoid blowing out the edge of a brick ..

but after discussing with the openreach guy (pulling cable to outside door) about crap installs from kelly's or morrisons(data service) I intend to ring sky and confirm it won't be those;
equally I want more precision than we will arrive between 0800&1300 too - I'm not spending a day on this, plus need to clear space for them to work.

[was reminded today what cowboys are on the loose - proverbial double-glazing salesman in the area - explained I wanted a quote on blown pane
ended up giving quote on window would be £2.8K, too much OK £1.8K , speaks to boss maybe could do £1.2K WTF ]
 
You can't request an Openreach employee instead of a subcontractor does your install, and you won't get any better than AM or PM, changing to a tighter estimate on the day when you get a text to let you know.

If you need a hole drilled a certain way then the best thing is to drill it yourself and point the engineer towards it.
