Dunno why people do it, just seems people seem to think theyre writing a letter rather than posting on a forum.

WHY do people do this?

Its not hard to just look at the username to see who posted the post, is there a need for it?

I see your point.... And I also see lots of people who do it !

It is a habbit, I nearly always do it, but in the post I wont bother doing it ! :p

What annoys me are the people who start every post with a greeting like "Hi" or "Hello", even if they have already posted in the thread a few times and have addressed the members they are speaking to in the very same thread. You don't say hello to someone every time you speak, i.e:

"Hello sir, how are you?"
"I'm fine, how are you?"
"Hello, I'm good too. Have you been up to much lately?"
"Just the usual, yourself?"
"Hi there, nothing interesting."
"Have you been talking to Finbar?"
"Hi mate, nah I haven't seen him at all."
"I was talking to him the other day, he was asking about you."
"Hello there, really?
"Yes, and stop ****ing greeting me!"
"Hi there, sorry about that."
Thinking of gibbo by any chance? :D

Is it? I haven't seen any nuns on the forum...

yeah, whereas threads such as "OMG the cat is on fire!" are much more intellectually substantial.
I don't mean the OP's post, I mean every post thereafter :)

I didn't say that thread wasn't pointless either ;)

With regards to people sigining there name, actually I think its quite a nice approach to ones posting style. I tend to recognise people off their signatures if going through a big thread. :D

What really bugs me, although thankfully not on this forum is when people are allowed any size signatures they want. Some forums spend you more time scrolling through the signatures at 800x600 etc than the posts. And then there are the odd few who have a massive signature and sign off each post with a picture signature as well so you get a doubble whammy.

I know what you mean. I love the restricted signature size on OcUK makes everything look much neater.

A society forum I used to go to very briefly had all sorts of signature sizes and it annoyed the hell out of me scrolling through threads where the signature made up more than half of the size of the post!

It's strange, but I wouldn't say it annoys me. I just see it as pointless.

It would only become irritating if people signed off like a 12 year old.

E.g.

'\[][][]--+++___/---> iCraig <---\___+++--[][][]/'

The big text signatures are awful, they fill the whole screen with names of the person's favourite music artists, all the cars they have ever owned, and every favourite food, etc. thankfully I am not an active member on any forums like that.

it looks wierd, its what i thought a forum signature was for  but it doesnt annoy me.
