Fire risks prompt tumble dryer recall - Now washing machines as well!

Fit a shroud around the heating element.

A few years back I had to replace a belt on my indesit and I was amazed at how much fluff there was in the bottom of the machine even though I kept the filter clean after every load. Glad I replaced it with a Bosch now!

Mind, I've still got a beko fridge freezer that could burn my house down!

Where have you go that from?

OOoo quick tip I just found for all us poor sods changing the pulleys run the dryer beforehand the belt is surprisingly flexible when warm :D.

Easiest change ever!

I saw a program a while ago about product needing recalled and the main conclusion was that companies will not go public and recall because of reputational damage or will put recalls in hard to find areas. This allowed them to legally claim they had made a recall. Only when a few deaths or Govt(very, very rarely UK Govt) action in the media will they put out a widely advertised recall. What is needed is a statutory duty to inform customers(marketing will have a database).

Ooops, that's our dryer affected.

Fortunately I always clean the fluff filter out, but I've registered it for the recall etc.
However I would have hoped that as I registered it when I first bought it they would have sent a letter, preferably clearly marked as an important safety notice.
They've managed to send me about 4 letters in 18 months extolling the virtues of their extended warranty.

Those companies share prices are going to start tumbling after this news.

Cheers OP

Ours effected. Thanks for the link OP.

Whats most worrying is that all my details are registered with them, so they know I have an effected model, yet NO proactive contact.

Not suprised at this - My model is meant to auto turn off when it detects the washing is dry. It didnt work properly when I got it in Feb time. Someone came out to look at it and did something / replaced some part. Still doesnt work, so could just go on and on forever.

Load of junk.

It all makes sense now, the recent issue with the Vauxhall Zafira bursting into flames, must be the ones powered by the affected Hotpoint, Indesit or Creda engines!

I was considering a dual integrated washer/dryer next but has always presumed that dryers were more trouble than they are worth?

k.

Same here, as I say they can remember to send me extended warranty sales fluff, but by the looks of it not a warning.

You'd think that a warning in such circumstances would be automatically generated and sent out as a priority to people who had registered their appliances.

Yes I'm not very impressed, especially as we only bought the thing a couple of months ago.

Bought one (Hotpoint) last week and the drum stopped rotating two days later. Two days trying to speak to Hotpoint before giving up and going down to Argos to get them to do something about it. Google customer complaints to Hotpoint and look at their non existent response . be interesting to see how they respond to the safety recall when won't even deal with a new item that involves the belt coming off?
