firefox v2 versus ie7

never said IE7 was fast. IE6 is, and ANY website will load quicker in it than in FF2.

And its not a config problem, its the same on any windows pc.

not a chance, obviously you don't actually use these things.

Lol, I've used ie6 and firefox for years the whole reason I switched to firefox is because of how much faster it loads pages espically with pipelining enabled. It certainly doesn't take 1 second for pages to load when I browse with firefox. Hell of a lot less holes for spyware to get through as well.

Clearly you've used every pc then from ie6 to ie7 and ff2.

We lose guys.

did that happen to be in your cache in IE?

FYI from a old comparison IE loads the page as a whole whereas FF starts to load the page immediately - this can often "seem" like IE has loaded the page faster because you see the whole page in one go whereas you actually see firefox load image elements since it starts to load the page bit by bit as they are received, usually text first since they are smallest even though loading time is the same give or take between both browsers. In a technical term FF is faster sine it's loading the page the moment it hits the server whereas IE waits til it has the page before displaying it.

Regardless though, even by your video there is little to should about in terms of speed between the two  also since nobody is going to be using IE6 for long, you should know that as a "web developer" - the average user will update via autoupdate.

that was bbc.co.uk, and I cleared the cache in both browsers before doing that.

That's fine, I just did the same (firefox first, IE after) and guess what I notice no difference. One could say FF loads it a smidge faster.

Would you like that in higher resolution ?

I also have the same on 3 other pcs here at home and one laptop which does have IE6.

there we go, conclusive evidence IE6 blows the doors off firefox

btw, that FF has fasterfox running on it too.

I couldn't even see what was happenening the camera was moving so much and it was out of focus, the evidence is hardly conclusive though, one person filming loading 1 page on their own computer system. I could record a video using fraps showing firefox loading up pages faster.

IEtab aint actually IE though is it. Is that 6 or 7? FF does seem to be faster in your vid.

IETab uses the engine of the IE version installed on the system, in fact it uses IEas a whole, just minus *** IE GUI. On mine it's IE7, the other pcs it's a mixture. I have 4MB cable btw connected via 54G wireless.

yes, it really is.

edit - allright, just tried ie7 out in windows XP and youa re quite right, no speed difference at all. However, IE7 in vista is noticably slower.

mrk what are you browsing you dirty dirty hound dog!!

I see no difference in both IE7 or FF ... Personal opinion is IE7 due to built in the system.

i have used firefox for a long time but now it seems slow compared to the ie7 that microsoft just installed for me
anyone else having issues with firefox v2 being a tad slow ???
dave
:D

FF2, slower starting up, of course as Internet Explorer basically runs in the background all the time.

But other than slower startup of the browser I don't find it at all slow. I'm sticking with FF2 for now ;)

Not 100% sure if IETab runs on IE7... but if they've done it well then it should run on the IE engine that's currently installed on that PC :)
