firefox v2 versus ie7

I strongly recommend you all try out Gran paradiso, then you will know about real speed ;)

Suggesting using an alpha is insane, but in the event anyone does try it, I'd suggest
  • backing up your profile before you do anything - it's impossible to overstate this
  • using a nightly build - they're a hell of a lot more up to date than the Gran Paradiso Alpha. The nightly build threads here are a wealth of information too

FF2, slower starting up, of course as Internet Explorer basically runs in the background all the time.

But other than slower startup of the browser I don't find it at all slow. I'm sticking with FF2 for now ;)

Not 100% sure if IETab runs on IE7... but if they've done it well then it should run on the IE engine that's currently installed on that PC :)

I highly doubt they couold squeeze the IE engine into a few hundred KB file now :p

play by the rules and the service is great. Of course you are entitled to your silly opinion if you want.
no
its not.
I played by the rules for ages. then they changed them. even before they changed them the service was crap. afterwards it just got worse.

Regardless of which is faster, personally I could never make the switch because I couldn't give up all my Firefox extensions that make browsing a pleasure not a chore.

There's just no substitute in IE7 (at least AFAIK) for such essentials as:

Adblock Plus + Filterset G
NoScript
MenuEditor
UndoClosedTab
etc.

My FF is setup to function just like IE7 to a T except for me FF is far far better due to the adblock extension and of course extensions in general!

:D

I see no difference in speed between the two either.

Any chance you could tell me what Firefox Theme that is? And what's the thumbnail extension you're using? Cheers.

IE7 F.T.W RARRRRRRRRRR !!!!!!!!!111!!!1!!1!!!!!!oNe!!!!!11!11!ONe!!!!!!1!!1!!!

Seriously though, if you clear the the cache and tempory internet folders etc and then you load up a graphicly intensive webpage using FF the page will come up straight away but the pictures will not, you will be able to see the pictures loading in from top to bottom, but the difference with IE6/7 is that the same webpage will not appear as fast, there will be a very slight pause and then the webpage including all of the pictures will appear loaded straightaway, you will rarely see the pictures and other graphical content being updated, I much prefer this as I don't like seeing pictures and graphical content being updated and loaded in when you move onto a new website, when I do it just reminds me of the old 56k days.

OPERA F.T.W!!!! :D

Its faster then both of them IME:D

I use all 3 and find FF2 faster by up to 2-3 sec on heavy content websites.

Opera 9.1 uses less memory though, with 10 tabs open on all 3 browsers at the same time IE7 uses 109MB, FF2.0 uses 87MB and Opera 9.1 uses 67MB though granted I had a seperate FF window open at the time and didn't realise.

All browsers had the same sites open too.

Indeed from what I've seen and heard almost everyone has frequent disconnections and customer service is non existant, and that's before they download more than 1GB a month and traffic shaping beings.

Never had any downtime in 3 months, not had to deal with CS, but they had us connected up in less than a week. We have 2mb, but speed is good, can always max it out, bit-torrent whatever you like. A rough estimate on our usage would be about 100GB/month. They do not complain unless you download upwards of 200MB or so during 6-11pm, which is plenty for browsing, keep the torrents for off peak no problemo.
