In the style of my old boss talk them into firing themselves - by which I mean he'd start with getting them to politely agree they'd had adequate training, had support, etc. etc. until he'd basically got them to agree that they were incompetent and should be fired by the time he'd built upto whatever they were being fired for. (Not sure I can really convey it very well).
Was quite depressing the number of times I sat there watching people put their foot in it knowing exactly what game he was playing.
when i was a young 17 year old at my first job, sleeping in the toilets due to late nioghts gaming/partying, hardly ever on my job, and at one time forging documents to say id done more work than i had, my manager did this same tactic.
he was a real intimidating guy, would always give me a rollocking and we would always clash and argue. the time came, more than once where i was sat upon the seat of doom awaiting my destiny, after several warnings and god knows however many unofficial warnings.
his words were clear to me after explaining all the things i did. i was good at my job, i just shown clear signs i wasnt bothered about it. explained why i was in there at that time, and if i was in his position, what would i do. i remember atleast two times where i submitted to my own demise and said the obvious that i would sack myself.
fortunately, that never happened. he gave me enough chances, too many in my now more mature mind. if he'd of sacked me who knows where i would be now. would i have wised up? never got another job?
i did leave in the end, i put in for voluntary redundancy and moved jobs, and my attitude changed considerably too. i think sometimes it is best to part ways, but i was thankful i was given the option to leave ratrher than a dismissal
