Roughly 4890/GTX 275 performance then...

If it cost what a 5770 cost, I'd say fine, but it's likely to cost a lot more than that.

Guess will be haning on to 4870 for some time to come.

Look at the 5770 vs 5850 and take 15-20% off the 5850.

Ignoring the SC2 beta results, it's more like take off 20-30%.

Assuming these results are real, I am struggling to see this card being worthwhile unless it can be had for around £130, which is just not going to happen.

If the cheapest 5830 comes in at < £130 ill sell my 5770 and buy 2 5830 because i suppose 2 of them will be better at 1920x1080 than 2 5770s?

Was always going to be the direct replacement for the 4890 so performance was pretty much going to be this. Price wise though its hard not to just pay the £20-30 more for a 5850, should have been priced close to the current 4890 price.

Gotta take this with a pinch of salt, no guarantee this is legit...(though from the site it does LOOK like they know what they're on about).

If true, ATI have certainly avoided the problem they created for themselves when they made the 5850 "to close in performance" to the 5870. Equally clocked 5850 and 5870's are very close, but it seems that even a massively overclocked 5830 will not match a stock 5850. I think £140 will be about right for this card. Any higher and the 5850 becomes too attractive.

You would think at the very least the 256bit memory would make a big difference but going by that review its only a few frames. Dissappointing if accurate and where that leaves the price of the 5830 in relation to 5850\5770 god only knows.:(

Way too much time and effort went into that for it to be fake!

It's certainly a card that is needed as the gap between a 5770 and 5850, both in price and performance, is too large. Power consumption is on par with the 5850 so the voltage must be higher than on the 5870/5850.

I sort of doubt it's fake.

I'm a bit surprised it didn't come clocked a bit higher...something like 825-850mhz?

While the performance is what I was expecting, the power consumption makes no sense at all unless this boils back to the grey screen or lines issues people are seeing.

I certainly won't get a HD5830 if it's a card that is just an afterthought on ATI's list and they've not spend the right time optimising it.

The extra power comes for the fact the GPU runs faster according to the review, although with all the stream, texture and raster processors missing you would still have though it would draw less not more than the 5850. The dollar price for this card looks about right, ~$200+ which would put it about £140, unfortunately companies seem to simply replace the dollar sign with a Euro one making it ~€200+ or about ~£180. Of course we should know for sure tomorrow, hopefully the price suits its performance.

It will come out for about £15 less than a 5850 in a few months, just like the 4830 did.

Factor in VAT and it should be around £170-190 I reckon.
