Hmm, I think a card good enough to run BF3 will be bottlenecked by the P4 processor.
EDIT:
I've been thinking more about this since posting... So long as you put a decent CPU cooler on that P4, overclock it and have some good RAM it should be able to pull through.
Also, how much are you willing to pay for a graphics card?
Ah okay.
Hmm, £50 is a bit low. I'd usually recommend a NVIDIA card, but ATI seem to be cheaper for what you get.
This card is £10 over budget, but should be able to play BFBC2 and BF3:

If you want to go over the budget a bit more, then get this:

Another alternative would be to buy a NVIDIA Geforce 9800GT; I used to play BFBC2 on one of these, it's a good card for what you pay. I don't think Overclockers stock them anymore, but you'll be able to find another one somewhere. People say if you can run BFBC2, you'll probably be able to run BF3... so check this table out:

You should be able to play BF3 on at least medium settings based on those results.
Woah this is an awesome thread!
I will be doing all this in the next few months to make my first PC, so this is really interesting and helpful! Keep it up!
And i can't wait to see your PC when it's done![]()
Maybe there could be a nice and cheap HD 5770 on Ebay?
Knowing this guys luck thats likely!
Mate no matter where you post, people will always say get sandybridge! For example i could say my keyboard has broke spec me one,The answer would be get sandybridge!![]()
Saw 8gigs of DDR2 go for £25 on MM today ... It was obviously taken at asked within 2 mins :/
On the topic of graphics cards again, I know somebody who's running an Intel Quad Core, 4GB DDR2 who's using an ATI 5750 and he's able to play on high in Bad Company 2 with random little lag spikes when there's some action. He tends to play on medium as it's smooth game play. So in short, consider buying an ATI 5750 if you need to keep within budget, they're decent cards for what you pay, despite it being an ATI card, the drivers seem to be stable, they're not too expensive so you should be able to pick one up for cheap.
Only another 105 posts until you can get free post and packaging![]()
Yeah it really doesn't matter if it's a legit make...
Do not be fooled by pretty pictures on graphics cards. They will be upside down in a normal atx build, and all you will see is a dull circuit board![]()
