First Car - £2000 - £2500

If you decide on a MK4 Fiesta I can't emphasize enough that you should get the Zetec engined version, rather than the lump of smegma 1.3 version.

The Zetec is quicker, more refined, has better economy, sounds nicer, lasts longer etc etc.

The insurance might be a few hundred quid dearer, but its definately worth it.

Fiesta 1.25 16v - cracking little cars, as said before, try and get a Zetec over an LX so you get a few more options. They go pretty well too - I've been driving my girlfriend's one over the past couple of days and i'm quite impressed :)

Saxo VTR - fairly quick, and another ideal first car. More comforts than the Fiesta, however I can never get on with the interior :(

Saxo VTR purely for insurance costs. That's the first thing to consider then see what falls into your affordability bracket.

Quoted for truth.

Unfortunately I've got the 1.3 and my Dad has the 1.25 Zetec - much better engine and it seems to have much better fuel economy.

Fortunately for me it looks like I'll be inheriting the Zetec in the next month or so, which is nice.

If your mum gets insured with direct line you should be able to get NCB as a named driver.

do other insurance companies honor this? also those 10month bonus accelarators and NCB protector schems?

Thanks guys, you have been more than helpful :)
Just off my 7th lesson :D Love driving - hope to get it all done and dusted uner 20 - or my wallet does anyway :P
Zetec is looking better and better - where should be the first place too look for one? Main dealer for trade-ins - private or second hand dealerships.

Thanks again - My mum and dad will of course be helping in this but for me tis a personal thing and something I want to be involved with :)
