You may remember my thread asking what first car to get.

I have pretty much settled on this

http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-u...icleYearOfManufacture=2000&vehicleRegLetter=W

2000 ROVER 25 1.4 IL 5dr [103PS] Hatchback

£850

The exact trim i would like aswell, even has electric front windows whoahh!

Got a quote for 1100 fully comp, 250 excess. Me as proposer and "Frequent" driver or as "Casual", can't remember! Dad as main driver brings it down! All with Kwikfit.

I've checked it a couple of times over to make sure it's right and not just user error being so low!

Decided to go for this over the Fiesta 1.25 mk4 for comfort, and slightly more powerful engine, and a higher trim level.

:) What do ya reckon?

*BTW Thread title was for different topic...changed it :p made mistake!*

It comes out roughly the same if i put it in his name and me as the added driver :) £1200 ish but only for TPFT

It's an £850 quid car, so I wouldn't worry too much about going fully comp, especially if it means the other option is to lose out on earning no claims and technically defrauding the insurance company.

have yourself as a main named driver, add your mother or old man as a named driver also, always brings my policy down by £100 or so, even if they never set foot in it

like others have said, dont bother with fully comp unless it costs no extra. As for the excess, is that voluntary £250? because you will have £100 on top in most instances for being under 25 (assuming that you are, apologies if not)

also assume oyu have put your details through moneysupermarket.com and confused.com?

bell and admiral usually do the best deals for me

no point having fully comp if its costing you more than the vehicles value.

adding older, more experienced, female drivers will help bring the policy down.

phone around and haggle against the lowest quote you have found :)

thinking about it, i remember paying £1200 TPFT for a 1.1s rover metro when i first passed, madness

Pffft. I'm a named driver on the insurance for my MG ZR. Don't worry. Enjoy your Rover, I do :D.

Then you are a muppet, especially over a ZR! Seriously, get your own insurance because as you get older and you've no no-claims bonus you'll find that lads the same age are getting much nicer cars and insuring them for a lot less than you!

Exactly, £850 for car, I wouldn't ever go higher than TPFT, maybe even TP. Its not a great deal of money tbh and with your excess being £250 anyway it seems rather silly spending so much on a old car. Never spend more on insurance than the car is worth!

As said, get yourself as named driver and then add your mum or even a g/f or sister. Woman are less risk than men, the insurance company will see her on there and figure she'll be driving for 40% of the time. This means that your only high risk for 60% of the time and your premium will drop.

The thread is titled 'nice hatchback'?

whats the point in having an internet discussion forum, if we cant help the OP out by pointing out that paying £1200 for fully comp insurance, with possibly a £350 excess for an £850 car is absolute madness

Equally, we're also helping him out by pointing out that insurance fronting is actually illegal and will void his insurance, potentially leaving him whatever ammount of the premium he had used plus the value of the car (could be nearly £2000) worse off, assuming he wrote his car off in the 11th month of his insurance and he stuck it into a tree or whatever, and the insurance co found out it was fronted

Was only joking anyway :P

As its your 1st car doesn't really matter, I am only jealous as my 1st car was a 1.0l seat ibiza, however as a 1st car was pretty awesome!

Where have you been getting your quotes from? Tried the likes of bell.co.uk?

As said, for the value of car I would go down TPFT, just a little scrape will make it a write off!

Merry Christmas, I'd rather not be paying £2000+ to drive my car. I plan on keeping it for a while and I won't always be a named driver.

Nice looking car. I am on a 214 IL fully comp @ £1600 (including some extras like breakdown cover, courtesy car etc). TPFT didn't reduce the cost that much. (I'm 22 btw).

Oh and ZOMG HGF! :D

Why not? I had to.

You want to drive, you pay the price.

Happy New Year ;) :p
<ot>
How old were you when you started driving your Rover? I am thinking of getting a Tomcat next year but am a bit put off by the insurance.

I passed my test at the beginning of October and I'm 22, do you have any idea what I would be looking at?
</ot>

Ive got my Ex girlfriends mother as a named driver, with me as the main driver, and it brings my price down by about 200 quid.

Id stick a woman on your policy and you be the main driver. that way ya get no claims

Spot on.

I was paying over £1200 for the pleasure of driving a Hyundai Pony at 17 and that was 9 years ago. We've all been there and now I can sit back and pay £310 on an IG 16 car because of the NCD I've built up. Remember, its not a right to be able to drive.
