First Car

I got the 420 Turbo shortly after turning 22 and had 0 NCB. I can't remember what the insurance was like, but it was high... probably close to what I paid to insure my first car.

For example, when the policy was due for renewal a few months later (and 1 NCB) it came down to £1400.

I just renewed it a few months ago (with 2 NCB) and am paying a smidge under £800. That's at 23 years old. The policy also includes DOC which is a nice addition :)

Nice looking car. I am on a 214 IL fully comp @ £1600 (including some extras like breakdown cover, courtesy car etc). TPFT didn't reduce the cost that much. (I'm 22 btw).

Oh and ZOMG HGF! :D

22 and paying 1600 for a 1.4 rover? i feel for you :(

for just £2 a month guys, we can help people like Amoeba... please contribute :)

Thanks everyone, i'll look into the insurance thing :)

I was kind of asking for opinions on the car more, but I see a motors debate has sprung up in place now :D ;)

And yeah, i'm 17.

Had a mock test with instructor today after around 15hrs... got a few majors, but it was in the morning and i only woke up when he txted me saying "i'm outside!"

A couple for indicating, and a couple for mirrors, one for something else i can't remember!

Only 7 minors though! Majors seem easier to work on :)

I currently own a 2000 Rover 25 1.4, it's also my first car.

I love it to be honest, its good you've looked at the 1.4 103ps model, probably the best of the range. Very nippy little thing.. great boot space. Not a lot of room in the rear for passengers, but I don't really care about that.

I'm about 6' tall and i fit into my rover quite nicely, good amount of room inside for such a small car.

These are just my opinions anyway, cant guarantee that you'll like it as much as i do mine (although im looking to replace my car soon)

With the number of miles that car has done I'd expect it to be up for a service some time soon, so would be good to keep that in mind.

Ah yes, that was one thing i needed to know.

Head Gasket is a common fault on these I believe, so does anyone know roughly when they will need replacing, as I don't want to pick one up and then find I have to get things fixed straight away! :)

Its worth taking the sting of higher payments by putting the insurance in your name for the benifit of NCB a few years down the line. I was a named driver for 2 years, which meant when I did take my own insurance out it was as if I was 17 all over again.
