Hey Guys

New to this forum.

First PC build after mainly being an old school console gamer.

Last pc game played was BF2142 circa 2006.

So saw pre builds and almost put an order in about one company that was until I saw the reviews online.

Having researched a bit i saw some good reviews on another company and with their configurator, 5 years warranty and customer service which was spot on I have placed an order with them.

I would appreciate your opinions good or bad.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D AM5 Processor
MOTHERBOARD: Gigabyte B650M AORUS ELITE AX ICE AMD Motherboard
MEMORY: Kingston FURY Beast RGB 32GB (2x 16GB) 6000MT/s
STORAGE: 2TB Kingston NV3 M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe SSD
VIDEO CARD: Gigabyte GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER AERO 12GB OC GPU
CASE: Lian Li O11 Vision Mid Tower Case - White
POWER SUPPLY: 850W ASUS Prime Modular 80 Plus Gold PSU

COOLING 1: Corsair iCUE LINK LX140 RGB 140mm PWM Starter Kit of Two Fans in White
COOLING 2: Corsair iCUE H150i ELITE LCD XT WHITE 360mm AiO Liquid CPU Cooler in White

MONITOR: iiyama G-Master GCB3480WQSU Red Eagle 34" UWQHD VA monitor
SOFTWARE: Microsoft Windows 11 Pro

Total cost £2,700 incl shipping

Intentions are built for general purpose with gaming a major part (obviously) - COD / Simulation and some video editing.

I have also tried to make this aesthetically as good and not just performance.

Views and thoughts welcome.

Mike

No not pre-built, just what I have put together. I wouldn’t trust myself putting it together either!

In relation to the NVME does it have to state DRAM and if so any suggestions.

Budge wise is there or thereabouts, wouldn’t want to spend any more really, maybe £100-200 max.

First off, this forum doesn't allow discussion of competitors I'm afraid, so would suggest editing out the names if you can.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D AM5 Processor
They're good gaming CPUs, but the 9800X3D is due very soon and the 7800X3D is expensive right now (it was around £300 not that long ago).

MOTHERBOARD: Gigabyte B650M AORUS ELITE AX ICE AMD Motherboard
If you're interested in USB4 I'd consider ASRock's X870 Pro RS white instead, performed well in HUB's roundup.

STORAGE: 2TB Kingston NV3 M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 x4 NVMe SSD
TPU had a review of this and I mean.., it looks fine in how it performs, but variable components and potentially QLC memory, with only a 3 year warranty, so I'd consider it out of place in a high-end PC.

CASE: Lian Li O11 Vision Mid Tower Case - White
Is a nice case, but I think comes fanless, no? I prefer cases like Lian Li's 216 or Antec's C5 ARGB, since you don't have to buy any extra for most PCs.

MONITOR: iiyama G-Master GCB3480WQSU Red Eagle 34" UWQHD VA monitor
VA panel?

COOLING 2: Corsair iCUE H150i ELITE LCD XT WHITE 360mm AiO Liquid CPU Cooler in White
You don't need a 360mm AIO for a 7800X3D. A £23 (at OCUK) Freezer 36 can do the job, or a peerless assassin/phantom spirit for an extra £10-£15.

Alternative DIY build:

Would recommend waiting for Black Friday deals.

Monitors are not my thing.

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £2,199.78 (includes delivery: £0.00)

Thanks a lot appreciate the info.

Will edit names ta
FYI: there's this card I could/should have added instead to be consistent with the colour. That particular Ventus is silver and black (MSI do a white version, but relatively expensive at OCUK).

Yes had a look around at prebuilds but I’d say, controversially maybe, that part of the build (50%) was aesthetics also - as white as possible really.

The Lian Li O11 Vision case, imho, being one to show off the build as best as possible.

I don’t think I will be using all components to the max.

I have asked to await the 9800X3D for later this week and see if they can get hold of it and at what cost comparative to the 7800X3D (£535.88).

That's an outrageous price for a 7800x3d when 9800x3d is around the corner

If you're nearby to some forum users, someone might be happy to help you build it and it's really not that complicated

One option is buy a cheaper cpu, use that for a bit then upgrade drop in a newer gen CPU later on. I went for a 7700 instead of a X3D due to cost, and the saving means I can use this for a bit then upgrade.

That seems overpriced to me... I also don't know who retailer is but would be somewhat wary of the 5yr warranty aspect, as most of the components would only have a 3 year warranty individually.

I also wouldn't touch a VA monitor personally....

Using the ocuk pre-built that Corum mentioned as a template, I came up with the following (including the case you wanted, better SSD and probably better PSU and most importantly - A whole tier higher GPU which will give significantly better performance and last longer before needing an upgrade!!!), which if you added the monitor that Tetras mentioned would still be slightly cheaper...

(hoping this link works with the customisations!)

Also, regarding the monitor, If you could stretch a bit more then you could opt for an ultra wide QD-OLED, which is widely regarded as vastly better than either IPS or VA

If there's anything you want to tweak, I'm sure the shop would be happy to tweak it for you!

Or to keep with a strictly white aestetic for a little more £...

ANOTHER SYSTEM

If you're open to an AMD graphics card you could drop to the Sapphire 7800XT option and save £180, although it is a little slower that the 4070 super

Edit: In either case I'd wait for the 9800x3D an possibly swap out for the motherboard that @Tetras suggested... and the whole buid he listed is MUCH better value for around £500 less, but you'd need to add a build fee to that (<£200 I believe)
