First Premiership Weekend (SPOILERS) - 19th & 20th August

lol at middlesbrough....

even more lols at sunderland, but they are irrelevant in the championship.

i hope liverpool and arsenal dont draw too many games otherwise we know what happens.

very happy to see bolton up 2-0 already but i've probably jinxed it now

We seem to be getting into a habbit of drawing our opening game :(

hmm.. i guess.

but because of champions league football you will probably take it "easier" in prem games.

gifting chelsea to a huge point gap early on, that was a mistake made last year and i hope liverpool, arsenal and man utd don't do it. obviously chelsea's squad size make it easier for them, but i think for liverpool, arsenal man utd the premiership title should be priority over champion league....

dont know why, i just don't want chelsea to win again :)

either way whatever, as long as we sign a striker and defender and finish top 6 im happy. :)

as it stands we are points ahead of our competition i guess, tottenham.... AS IT STANDS. so dont quote me

Ive been told that (haven't checked myself though) that Liverpool would have won the league if you take out the first month from last year; i know it counts for nothing but shows how important a good start is.
Bit suprised with Rafa's selection today, he supposidly rested Alonso (after internationals) because of the CL game in mid week, which is fair enough but i would have rather he played Gerrard alongside Sissoko and played Pennant down the right; not totally convinced with Zenden in CM.

Looking at the Bolton goals:

1: Shouldn't have stood, Davenport was man marking Davies, corner comes in, Davenport is held back by a Bolton player leaving Davies free on the near post to head in.

2: Poor clearance, falls to Campo full pelt takes a deflection and catches Robbo out. Probably should have saved it.

Close game though, 3 shots each. :o

I heard something on the radio about Warnock saying Fowler told him it shouldn't of been a pen & Liverpool making a statement about it, what's that all about then?
Yea saw Warnock say that, but not 100% certain he was beeing serious (Fowler that is).
I was at work so had to sneek off to the pub to watch it and didnt have a great view, but Andy Gray said he wasn't sure if there was contact, Gerrard supposidly told Rafa that there was, overall i thourght Stlyes had a poor game; gave freekicks everytime a Liverpool player jumped for the ball.

well they havent swapped crisps for players.

no one can deny they have a very expensive world class squad
Expense has nothing to do with size, 19 outfield players, 5 unavailable for Sunday, probably the smallest squad in the PL.
Edit: 20 if you include the Cannibal, but he's not available yet & will replace Gallas (or Huth, maybe both) anyway...

hey less of the Liverpool, we played today without Kujt, Crouch, Alonso, Garcia, Kewell and Pennant. Granted we drew but they are not bad players to be able to leave out (Kewell was injured though)

Once again I'll take you to task, we have an abundance of MF's that's it though, 3 strikers & 5 genuine DF's with a utility player & 2 likely to leave is hardly great back up.
Would be good to see comparative squad sizes though:)

Agree. He obviously had is eye on mid week, and rightly so given the money we stand to lose if we don't progress, but I thought it was an ideal game to have Gerrard in the centre given the opposition.

It's a shame about the injuries and I'm still not convinced about Aurellio as a defensive force but Arsenal drew so it's not too bad. I didn't think the ref was that great today. I thought their captain was lucky to stay on after blocking Gerrards throughball with his arm. We had two players clean through and I think it stopped a goal scoring chance. Regarding the penalty, Gerrard didn't dive. He changed his footing to get out of the way of the challenge and then fluffed his shot and fell over. Overall, I thought a draw was a fair result.
