First Premiership Weekend (SPOILERS) - 19th & 20th August

Just seen the Everton v Watford highlights on MOTD.

Have the rules changed since last year?

I can't remember hearing that hand balls in the penalty area are allowed, but heading the ball out now results in a penalty.

How unlucky were they!

Edit\ just seen the highlights on MOTD and that Riise foul was in the box, when a striker closes down a defender making a clearance and takes the defender out its a freekick so imo that should have been a pen. Gerrard one is still inconclusive, but Styles has came out and said even without any contact its still a pen because the intent was there.

The radio guys actually thought the goalie had clipped Risse as he went past him, rather than the defender fouling him.Couldn't really tell from the tv replay as they concentrated on the defenders challenge.

Gerrard one was not what i was expecting tbh.The 'he didn't touch him' stuff above made me think Gerrard had taken a dive, when he clearly didn't.

In fact the 'diving' claims are a bit daft and counterproductive in that one.Pretty much all of us want to see less diving and today both Gerrard and Risse could have taken a tumble to win a 'dodgy' pen.Instead they both tried to stay on their feet and play on,with the result that Risse gets nowt (except inury) and Gerrard gets stick for jumping over a lunging player who missed the ball.He might as well not bothered trying and just left his leg there to get the pen.

Shocking dive by Gerrard
Not really, he lost his balance after trying to dig the ball out from under his feet. I thought it looked like a genuine attempt for the ball & there was clearly no contact, I'm not sure whether that constitutes a pen or not (I think the rules say it doesn't) but the ref claims there was intent to foul him so that's all that matters I guess :/

im a wednesday fan and was watching tha match in the pub...the gf and all her family are mad untied fans, and even i admitted that it was never a penatly and i wanted united to lose, if it was a penalty why didnt the defender get sent off seing as he already had a yellow card to his name?

The ref let play go on to see if gerrard scored, then because he flumped it blew for the penalty

ah well was a decent result for them, the win would have obviously been better...but atleast wednesday have got their first win of the season :)

Squads:-

Manchester United (from): Van der Sar, Kuszczak, Neville, O'Shea, Brown, Ferdinand, Silvestre, Ronaldo, Park Ji-Sung, Scholes, Giggs, Saha, Rooney, Rossi, Evans, Evra, Richardson, Fletcher.

Fulham (from): Niemi, Crossley, Drobny, Queudrue, Rosenior, Volz, Knight, Bocanegra, Pearce, Christanval, Zakuani, Brown, Boa Morte, Diop, Bullard, Timlin, Pembridge, Elrich, Helguson, McBride, John, Radzinski, Runstrom.

Great start from Man U, Fulham look abysmal. He must be close to losing his job soon (Coleman).

3-0 in 16 mins.

EDIT: 4-0 in 19 mins, this could be a cricket score.

You see for me, Man United today and Liverpool yesterday is a prime example of the gap still to be bridged by Liverpool. I still think we are as good as United in a head to head, but there are so much better when playing the smaller sides.

Took our foot off the pedal there.
I hate chris coleman the gobby little **** that he his, i want to see us absolutly humiliate him and his team today.

Rio, own goal \o/

It wasn't an own goal leave the insults out. It was a severe deflection from a shot. Rio couldn't do anything about it.

Absolutely stonking performance so far from an attacking perspective. We look a bit worryingly fragile at the back though. The Fulham goal came from Evra being so far out of position he couldn't track back effectively.

Great performance from Ronaldo and Scholes so far, both he and Rooney will be a huge loss for the next three games.
