First time car options.

Good choice! Enjoy your new motor. Get some pics up if you can.
Did you HPI it before buying?

Nah, was going to do this, but seeing as they're a family of coppers, really nice people and made me a cup of tea I didn't feel the need to. Also have the full history of the vehicle and mots.

With regards to the MOT, he told me when I was bartering for the car that he'd just paid 72 quid and could claim that back, or leave it on the car and not take money off the price. Gave me the mot receipts from the post office and the certificate. If it does get refunded I'll just go round and ask for the money he got back and hope he gives :)

He will get refunded when he sends the documents to DVLA, so might be best to speak to him now. Looks quite tidy for the age/mileage. Enjoy

Will I get any info telling me when/if the car's mot has been removed?

Posted the change of ownership docs to dlva y'day.

I think you mean tax rather than MOT? Scroll down to "Buying a vehicle" and it explains everything.

Your car is showing up as taxed right now but once the DVLA know that there's a new keeper that will be revoked and the policeman will be refunded. Tax it now here:

Just a quick update and some advice I'm after.

Hit 1000 miles today since I got the car and haven't had any issues. I've been sticking to 50mph during my trips and rarely go over, more do to the savings in fuel economy I'm trying to make and avoiding wear on the car. It's sitting at 102k miles at the mo.

I did put 2000 miles annually on my insurance and have done half that in a little over a month. I'm only doing a 50 mile commute per day until the end of June. Do I need to tell my insurer?

The car makes a different sound when it's in first gear. I've heard this might be down to low transmission fluid. It's kind of like a whirring sound, or the sound the car makes in reverse. Sometimes when driving in first gear it feels like the car is only half on it. Usually putting it in neutral and re-selecting the gear makes it more smooth, but I'm worried I might soon start to have problems with first gear.

It's sometimes difficult to get into first gear, like if I don't put enough pressure into moving the stick to the left it won't engage and I'll be in neutral trying to set off. Is this a problem, or something all cars can have?

Similar problem with reverse gear, but more noticeable and I'm often revving the engine as the gear hasn't been properly selected. Never happens with 2nd to 5th, only 1st and reverse.

Any major issues here that require attention?

This did happen. I got a letter through saying my tax had been removed!

The owner of the car phoned me up and brought round £30 which was nice. Showed me the cheque for £30 that was posted to him.
