First time on dual carrageway!

no offence but are you sure your instructor isnt taking you for a ride,
seriously, 25 hours and then you go on ther dual carriageway?
how is that possible?

Agreed. As most people have said, you should have gone on a dual carriageway a long time ago, 25 hours and most people are just about to take their test....

Best of luck with driving though. Hope you pass come April,

Either way, 25 hours is quite a lot, I'm surprised you weren't bought onto them earlier. But glad you enjoyed it mate, it's scary at first, but once you do it a couple of times, it'll be fun. :)

I had my first dual-carriageway drive on my second lesson, it was scary, but now it's as easy as town driving.

I was never taken on a dual carridgeway when I was taking lessons, or even driven on one since I passed my test a year ago. Its great living in north scotland

It could be fun when the time comes and I have to drive on one.

I don't recall doing any driving on dual carriageways with my instructor, but then he was rubbish.

My dad made me drive him down the a3 before I took my test and that was the first time I'd been on one.

I never actually drove anywhere other than in the town where my test was going to be when i had lessons. What is the point of paying to drive on a dual carriageway unless you know that it is part of the test route?

I made it quite clear to my instructor that i only wanted lessons on the test route which were going to be worth my £22 (cheapest rate at the time in my area). Passed after 5 lessons. It seems utterly silly to be paying all this money for pointless hours of tuition which will not add anything towards the chances of passing the test. You can then go and spend countless hours of your own much cheaper time tearing up and down motorways or wherever you like instead of paying for it through the nose.

I do think he is a good instructor! Not had any problems with him apart from his attendance. LOL

All i know I've got next lesson is Turn in the road and more Dual carrageway driving!

Because you take lessons to learn how to drive, not how to pass the test. It is best for them to take you onto those roads first.

How can £16 per 2 hours make it even worth his time? By the time he has fuelled his car and accounted for wear and tear he must only be making about a fiver an hour?

Learn to drive in your own time, pay the extortionate rate to pass the test as quickly as possible. Works out cheaper and easier all round. I fail to see why people bother with all these lessons.

I though it was cheap but I think he like teaching or something, e.g. like a hobby. But I am enjoying ever moment of it and not really bothered about its 25th lesson and doing turn in the road! Ive done reversing and parking and all that diddle. Reverse parking is a doodle for me aswell as reversing around a corner with about 1ft space from car to kerb.

I'd rather be taught how to drive properly than teach myself to drive.

Fair enough, that is your choice :) A lot of people seem to agree with you.

Personally i'd rather be effectively earning £15 or so (after running costs) per hour by teaching myself. At 17 thats quite a good hourly wage.
