Fishing - Anybody doing any ?

I pretty much gave up coarse fishing, there are no real places near me for natural fishing, it's all stocked lakes or brown trout and salmon in the rivers. I used to love fishing for big eels and pike when in Taunton, I can now get much bigger eels in Weymouth harbour and enjoy spinning and some light beach casting. Have tried stocked lakes and found sitting still for hours, days, weeks waiting for that tackle shy carp to take the bait boring, switch to tench with lobworm, and it's so easy, it gets too repetitive.

I have not fished this year ( Carp Fishing ) starting to loose interest in the long sessions i used to do and too much gear for just a day.

Trying to sell all my carp gear so i can just get some course gear and just enjoy the local pond near me

Going to New Quay (Wales) next week and will have some light spinning gear. Any tips or recommendations fishing from shore or harbour wall?
Done some in Whitby a few years back found best spots are round the harbour walls close in or if you can get to any rocks are a good bet about 2 rod lengths off the tip of the rock.

No sea fishing this year.

Did a day ticket at a fairly near carp fishery and caught a couple, a mirror of about 3lb and a common of about 7lb.

I sold my carp gear years ago when I got into sea fishing but I kept the bare minimum to do a day ticket fishery. I only fish one rod nowadays and no complex rigs and baits, just the basics.

Fishing a floating crust can be exciting when fish are up in the water and it takes practice to present the bait well and strike in the right direction to set the hook.

It beats sitting next to bite alarms IMO

I’m trying to thin mine out. I’ve only done one night this year. I’ve got 3 sets of Harrisons I tried selling a set on ebay and gave up in the end. I wasn’t asking for top dollar either.

I see people fishing at my local park all the time, often over night.

I walk around it a lot so kinda know where people catch the big carp. it's amazing how almost everyone who goes there picks a spot where I never see them catch a fish.

1 and 2 seem most popular but I never see anyone catch a fish there

people seem to avoid 3 but the people I've seen their have nearly always caught a fat carp

I often wonder if in front of 5-6 is better because I see a lot of carp or whatever jumping out the water.

Proper massive carp in there btw for anyone who lives in Newcastle and doesn't realise. (check google for pics)

I think you need to buy a ticket on the leazes park angling club website before you fish there though.

I had a day out coarse fishing yesterday, Monkton Pools, near York (not too far from where I live).
I caught 7-8 carp, smallest 3lb, biggest around 8lb.

My mate had a far better day, he caught 14 - biggest was around 10lb.

Probably my last day coarse fishing this year, as busy for the next few weekends and the weather is definitely changing.

That is a great fish from a river.
What was the fight like?
Were you spinning?

It took a couple of big runs but got its head up and into the net pretty quickly. In hindsight it would've been better to take time netting it because it went absolutely mental in the boat. I think it would be an upper 20 at winter weight, possibly a 30 in a couple of years!

Caught on a dead bait, lure fishing was hard work last week probably because the water temperature dropped quite a bit suddenly.
