Flakes abit too flakey

Not that I've bought Icecream from a van for a few decades.. the problem with the flakes in 99's was always they were so hard...but that's kinda understandable as they'll just whack the chocolate in the fridge so it's cold and hard and doesnt melt and make a mess in transit.

And more importantly, a semi melted flake isn't a flake any more, its just a lump of chocolate.

They never used to crumble, also they were once 99p and much bigger than what they serve as now. The whole system is whack.

of course theres better choc out there, a 99 with 2 Lindt milk red balls would be amazing, prolly cost a fiver though

I'm just wondering, harking back to the 80's now... the flakes in 99's were almost perfectly formed shorter versions of a regular flake chocolate bar.

So my hypothisis is thus:

Cadbury used to make mini flakes specifically for ice creams (mini flakes if you will), or the icecream man would use regular flakes cut to size.

Cadbury now just sell boxes full of chocalate shrapnel for the ice cream trade, sold by weight, so probably only about 30% of the product could realisticaly be called a decent flake.

Cadbury also changed thier recipe several decades ago, and not for the better.

Conclusion:
The 99 is dead, and has been for some time. If you want a good ice cream experience, you're gonna have to go a bit more up-market.

I suppose in these hipster days it’s all about the gelato

How many 99's in a three fiddy? Approximatly 1.5.

Would sir like that in a regular cone? or split into two smaller cones for a sir charge of 25p? :)
