Hello guys,

Just a quick question, i just came off a roundabout and a front facing speed camera flashed me, quite abit before i was near it, i was only doing about 34 in a 30, it was a quick orange flash, am i likely to expect a notice within 14 days?

Thanks

You monster! Expect the Interceptors to rock up at silly o'clock in the morning to smash your doors in before dragging you from your bed, giving you a patronising 'talking to' and then summarily executing you and your family in front of a crowd of jeering on-lookers.

isnt it 10 % plus a little ? (to cover accuracy of instruments ect) id have thought you would be ok

Not everywhere depends on police discretion ive got work collegues whos been clocked at 32 in a 30 in wales

To the op if the cameras flashed you at 34 you may get away with a speeders awareness course instead of points

If the camera was facing you and it was a gatso, you won't get a letter. While gatso's do work for both directions of traffic, because of UK law the speed has to be backed up by the white lines painted in the road, which won't have been on your side.

I've been flashed by one particular camera on the wrong side of the road many times. :p

Correct me if I'm w obv but front facing camera don't flash do they? Though they used infrared so as not to dazzle the driver.

Correct, plus the op said it was an orange flash, i, pretty sure all cameras have a white flash.

Could you go through it again at 34 to confirm it flashed orange? ;)
Perhaps it's got a warning system built in - If you're only speeding a bit you get an orange flash, if you go through it really fast, you get a red flash.

He should go through it again at different speeds, at 1 mph increments from 32 to 40 and make a note of each colour flash.

there's no ONLY about it. you were speeding,, hopefully will get ticketed and learn to drive more safely.

Eurgh. Get back on your bicycle and go back to your cave please.

OP, you've usually got about 10% on a car's speedo and 10% on a camera's tolerance, so the odds are fairly unlikely. Plus UK cameras don't flash head on, because blinding and lawsuits. I'll be VERY surprised if you even hear anything from this.

32 is the minimum you can get fined for in a 30 I think.

But the old flash cameras use film and many of them don't even get refilled any more. Also many have had the lenses vandalized and they are left there just to scare people. I know a guy who used to live right opposite one in a village, every other week there was a council worker out there cleaning or repairing it after someone did it over again :P

As above poster has said, car speedometers are around 2-4mph fast so you would have been going near the 30mph mark if you read 34mph.

Each force have their own guidelines, here in Staffordshire I did a speed awareness course when clocked at 42mph in a 30 zone so you will be fine.

Youe colleagues are mistaken / lying.

35 is the minimum you can get fined at in a 30. Nobody ever in the history of the internet has been able to show a ticket issued for less than 35 in a 30.

I got pulled for doing 45+ in a 30 and got given 'advice' and sent on my way. It was 3AM on a die straight road, but if it was a speed camera I would have been totally screwed.

When it comes to issuing tickets from speed cameras I would assume it is not based on discretion at all, and that tickets are issued automatically. I thought in some places the threshold for being pulled over was non existent and you could get fined for doing 31 in a 30 if the copper was a bit of a plum, but with cameras there are still defined thresholds.
