FlatOut: Ultimate Carnage

What's unfair about bowling? I admit its hard to get gold but getting bronze is quite easy.

The pins rarely fall over even when smashed damn hard :( then they appear to right themselves despite being at 45 degrees :(

Maybe I am just crap but my PB on bowling is 27 :/

Somebody needs some practice :p My PB is 109..that did take over 4 hours of solid bowling to get though!

The tips recommend you aim for the base of pin 1 and then do a nudge but that didn't work for me. I usually try and hit 150kmh, launch the guy at about 20 degrees just in front of the bar and aim for pin 1. he'll usually clip the top of it and give it a quick nudge there for strike goodness :)

sorry whats 150kmh in real speed?

but yes I'm getting there now, 20 degrees seems to do the trick landing my victim 3/4's the way down the lane and a quick nudge and mostly getting strikes :D

Except the one go where someone distracted me and I released at about the 40 degree mark. Took out half the letters of 'Bowling' :D

tried playing it a bit more over the weekend, still dont like it, still finding more stupid bugs (cars landing on your roof, me landing on cars and getting stuck) its weird, I loved Flat Out 2 on the PC, the racing was quite tight on that, but the cars just slide stupidly on every single surface on this version.

Oh well, I know some of you guys love it, but I hate it, dont mean to start a flame war, just voicing my opinion. if everyone like the same thing the world would be a very dull place.

Its going on the bay this week, if any of you guys want it for a decent price PM me.

Strange, I find the handling pretty much the same as FO2 on the PC

Really enjoying this so far even though i havent got that far through the career mode i only started playing it yesterday , the derby's are good fun but a lot of luck is needed with these i think , very good gfx and gameplay would recommend this game to any racers .

I got this yesterday, here is my very basic review.

Gameplay
It is very enjoyable but i found it's tough to win races, making a mistake can cost you the race, but if you drive well you can catch up over the laps. The menus and setup are slick and it tells you all sorts of details after the race.

Graphics
There seems to be less aliasing than forza 2, the shadows and reflections are topnotch, and it seems smooth and fast.

Sound
I'm not an audiophile, but the sound is pretty good. I don't like most of the music, though.

Online
Not tried yet, will try later.

Lifespan
Only got it yesterday! May last a while with online mode. Already completed 25% of one of the 3 classes of race.

Overall
A very good game, worth the money if you like this kind of game.

Score

9.5/10

The earlier races can be quite hard untill you've done a few upgrades, or buy better cars.

Shouldn't it be the other way round? :p Most other games have it easy at the start then it gets more difficult.
Good to know, thanks DreXeL, I'll have to put a lot more time into it.

I've decided you're a big liar! :p

I've managed to win all of the races for the first two cups in the derby class. Ok, I'm a liar too - I came 3rd on the first of the first... but anyway, I won the gold for the cups overall.

3rd cup now. I just bought all the upgrades available for my car: engine, gears, tyres, brakes, suspension, exhaust, roll cage - everything except the bit of bodywork (frame?) that makes it heavier.

So in theory I should have a pretty fast car that handles well? Not on MY game, Everyone out-accellerates me until the first corner on the storm drain bit and then i can catch up, but it seems a lot harder overall than when I had no upgrades whatsoever

Don't remember which car it is, I think it was the most expensive of the ones you could buy at the start.. dark grey.

It's hard to get a quick luanch from the start, that's why everyone out accelerates you from the start. Don't hold it at full throttle for the start.

I didn't mean you automatically win everything when you have all the upgrades, but what I have found is that when everything is upgraded you can pull a massive lead ahead of the rest of the cars when you have fought your way to the front, rather than only just scraping a win in a standard car.

Let you off then :)

I've tried doing the 30-50% or whatever it was throttle start, but the best I can manage is to just not get completely left behind. Are you saying there's a possibility to start FASTER than the competition?

Not really Jono :(

However you should have unlocked a couple of new cars - buy one of those :p

Failing that struggle to level 3 of derby class to unlock better cars.

Or get gold in the first race in Carnage mode to unlock the grinder :D

Nope, I haven't managed to get a faster start than the AI, but if you get it right you can launch at the same speed as them.

I've found that works well, you do have to adjust yourself to the game though, but once into it it's a blast with the wheel.
Trying it now matey, cheers :)

Edit: That works so much better, what is this saturation crap that's on by default?

Oooo I have a problem:

I want to pwn all you pretenders online in bowls, races and stunts but every time I play the game I get disconnected from XBL after ~20 mins :(

It will not auto reconnect and means I look totally anti social :(

Ideas?

Haven't got a clue, it makes it feel like the wheel is connected to the car via a bowl of porridge.
